If you dislike this change, you’re a permanently Gen X nostalgiabrained doofus. It’s so obviously better to have the protagonist of his own entire trilogy return in this meaningful scene than for it to be Some Guy he never even aged into before becoming Vader.

@GundamNoContext @FanAkko That is only true of Return of the Jedi. Empire was Kershner's film and Lucas was rarely present for filming. I think you should read more about how these movies were made.

RLM didn't change the public opinions on the prequels but they did peddle the narrative that George Lucas was a lucky idiot who didn't deserve credit for any of his accomplishments from even decades before the prequels which is much worse than saying the prequels are bad

@Kerb_Poet @hradzka I don't think they can, aside from the CGI aliens. People like to describe Qui Gon as a maverick but he's the same emotionally withdrawn monk as the other jedi. Padme is totally interchangeable with her bland double, for the purpose of the twist.
