SAMRO announced the release of the final report from the Concerts SA project, which investigates the experiences of women in South Africa's live music industry. This comprehensive study, based on both quantitative and qualitative data from a 2023 survey, offers crucial insights into the working conditions and interactions faced by industry professionals. Conducted by IKS Cultural Consulting and funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SAMRO, this research highlights key aspects of representation, treatment, and safety for women in the live music sector. The findings are poised to inform the development of advocacy and support programs aimed at improving working conditions and opportunities for women in this field. Concerts SA Research Highlights: - Objective: The study, funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SAMRO and conducted by IKS Cultural Consulting, explores women's experiences in the live music sector, with a focus on representation, equity, and safety. - Employment Data: 51.7% work full-time in music, dedicating 24+ hours per week. 44.2% have over 10 years in the sector. Nearly 50% are self-employed, with 56% earning below R5,000. The predominant roles are singer/songwriter. - Gender Disparities: Over 70% observed gender discrimination. More than 80% felt their gender affected their treatment. 73% reported that gender influenced career progression. 63% noted gender-based discrimination, with 54% highlighting unequal representation in education and 61% in their specific roles. Additionally, 55% felt stereotyped, and 53% believed gender affected networking opportunities. I have stopped all trips for super fans, we have athletes & artist who are struggling to raise money to attend sporting events and exhibitions, how do we justify paying for fans? We shall no longer be paying for these trips and will use that money where it’s needed the most.

#EskomGauteng #SowetoOutageUpdate We have managed to restore electricity supply to all the customers who were affected by the fire at the Zola substation using three different transformers that supply electricity to other areas in Soweto. As a result, there will be an increase in electricity consumption. This might go beyond the capacity of the three transformers, causing them to trip because of overloading. To prevent overloading the three transformers due to the added load, we will rotate customers and share the load. Therefore, some areas will be without supply for a period of 2 hours. We urge our customers not to report these outages. We also appeal for patience and cooperation as we work on repairing the vandalised transformers. It should also be noted that this is not loadshedding.
