I would like to share my perspective on the situation in Iran and its implications beyond the country’s borders.
The Iranian regime came to power in 1979 through deception. Its leaders persuaded opposition groups and gained the support of Western governments by promising a pluralistic future, only to eliminate rivals after the revolution and establish a violent theocracy. Thousands of political activists were executed in the early years, creating a climate of fear that continues today. The regime defines itself as an Islamic government rather than a national one, and it has never been accepted as legitimate by the majority of Iranians.
Senior officials have openly prioritized ideological determination over diplomacy, portraying Israel and the United States as existential enemies. This worldview has driven four decades of proxy warfare, militarization, and regional destabilization. The Palestinian cause has been instrumentalized—not to liberate Palestinians, but to justify perpetual conflict, expand influence, and pursue the elimination of Israel.
Inside Iran, religion has been weaponized to suppress dissent, while corruption, asset seizure, and systematic embezzlement by senior officials have devastated the economy and impoverished ordinary people. Abroad, the regime has expanded its ideological reach through regional alliances and networks that influence media, lobbying, and voting blocs in democratic systems, often weakening international resolve and shielding the regime from accountability. The regime’s transnational operations extend into major Western cities, where intimidation of diaspora communities seeks to silence Iranian voices and normalize its presence.
Meanwhile, Iranians have never stopped resisting. From the 2009 Green Movement to the 2022 “Women, Life, Freedom” uprising following Mahsa Amini’s death, and now renewed protests fueled by economic collapse and repression, public opposition has only grown. Today, Iran is under martial law: internet shutdowns, armed forces in the streets, unarmed civilians shot, and families grieving without answers.
The events across cities in Iran reflect a level of brutality that many Iranians believe surpasses even the crimes of the Nazi regime in Germany, particularly in the deliberate trapping, burning, and mass shooting of civilians. The terrorists operating under the IRGC and its affiliated forces function as one of the most wicked, brutal, and inhuman repressive machines in modern history, indiscriminately shooting even surrendered protesters. The wounded and physicians helping them have not been safe even in hospitals.
Given protests spanning more than a hundred cities and involving millions of participants, the number of slaughtered protesters has reached well over 50,000, with the true scale concealed through censorship, mass graves, intimidation, and the systematic suppression of evidence. Silence has filled the space where protection was expected.
The brutal regime in Iran stands at the center of a global threat to peace and stability worldwide. By systematically practicing taqiyya–the strategic concealment of true intentions– the regime presents a façade of diplomacy while continuing severe repression at home and destabilizing actions abroad, rendering its assurances inherently unreliable.
The regime is currently at its weakest point, having lost senior military leadership in recent Israeli strikes and facing widespread domestic dissatisfaction. Delaying decisive actions risks allowing the regime to recover and escalate its operations, including further militarization and proxy expansion, as well as pursuing nuclear ambitions openly declared by its leaders.
