It’s Open championship week at a glorious sunny Royal Birkdale. Delighted to say I will be all over things across the week for @paddypower . Main preview will be out for Paddy later today.

@DaveTindallgolf You should have given me a shout! I’d have helped you find somewhere! Still, Liverpool’s not awful. Train from Central takes 40 mins & stops at Hillside right by course. Hopefully we can have a beer one evening. Weds night for Semi should be quite a night in Southport!

Has to be said that was flawless from Tom Kim. As good a tee to green performance as you’ll see all yr. Been a tough 2 yrs for him. I remember watching him at Myrtle Beach last yr & he looked completely lost. He’s well & truly back now & at still only 24 he has a huge ceiling.

@BillyHo_Golf @Aaron_Cresswell I guess a recommendation from a Hammers legend trumps one from a Hammers fan! Penelope’s is a great spot. If you’ve got the energy you can hit Birkdale Padel club just behind it afterwards!!

I was actually thinking about this earlier. Americans are going to arrive in Southport to temperatures for the week akin to Florida….except no air con in sight. Some uncomfortable nights sleep ahead!

@LodgeKinder If you’re in Birkdale The Park pub. If you’re in Southport town centre Lord St Hotel has a sports bar with many screens & also they have a giant screen outside with tables etc on Lord St.

For anyone coming to Southport/Birkdale this week here r some dinner/bar recommendations in no particular order. Southport restaurants, Crete Taverna, Great Himalayas, Kalash, Nazar Turkish, Vincents Hotel. Sinclair’s, Lord st hotel sports bar (giant screen outside for footy)

The 🍩 bunker on No. 7 at Royal Birkdale.

Tom Kim is leading this golf tournament yet he was the only one of his 3 ball not to have his tee shot on 8 shown & now we don’t see his tee shot on par 3 9th either. 🤷‍♂️

@BenColeyGolf I don’t know, if you’re teeing off at 8 I guess you’re up by 5am. Getting to bed post 10pm doesn’t get you much sleep. Wouldn’t be enough for me anyway!

@Sundogmonkey Haha no I don’t, unless it goes the distance it won’t be that late anyway… not like the big names go out that early, either.

Sorry to make this about golf but some of the contenders in Scotland will want to be on the range in 5hr30m and have got another 20 of this minimum. Not ideal is it.

Birkdale village, bistro verite, Coast are both great restaurants. Bar Nista is great for brunch. Samuels a great coffee shop. Loads of other great bars. The Park is a great footy pub. Finally in Hillside right by course, Pines & Grasshopper are both great bars.

@BillyHo_Golf Vincent’s hotel on Lord Street Billy. Also offer a buffet option for anyone who doesn’t want a roast. A recommendation from a fellow Hammers fan! Let me know if you want any other dinner recommendations. The Crete Taverna is our hidden gem FYI!

Where’s the best spot for Sunday Roast in Southport??

The English journalists set up Bellingham beautifully post match straight after the game and he fell for it😂 Not sure why this country does this with many sports people but other nations don’t actively look to create division in the national team🤷‍♂️ You’re in the semi finals the players need everyone pulling together🙏

@GoalShort Think that’s a bit harsh on Tuchel. Rice was struggling & clearly had to come off. Possibly should have kept Gordon on, otherwise Spence was great as was Burn again. I guess the only odd thing is he clearly doesn’t trust Mainoo so why bring him.

@Sundogmonkey I agree with you and we are finding a way but history tells you we don’t find the ultimate way to finish the job. The manager got away with it last night. That second half showing was his fault and Jude rescued him.

A thought on World Cup. Best team often doesn’t win. How many times over yrs have we envied mentality of average Italian/German teams who have just ‘found a way’. Are we better than France/Spain, no, but we can beat Argentina & I’ll then joyously accept us ‘being Italy/Germany’.
