@MariaCastiglia7 @RutgersAltRoute Agree! For my #esl students, I give them "projects" that they can work on and present their answers in different manners. I want to assess their language acquisition.

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I implement a lot project based learning or allow for choices in assessment style. This allows for student autonomy and also gives them a great chance to show what they know in a way they are comfortable with! #alternateroute #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I see how students mindset might get in their way. A 3rd grader said to me, "I'm not good in math. It's hard." The students wouldn't try to solve a single problem. After making sense and guide her thinking, she was able to complete the problem. #AltRtEd #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A4: Try organizing feedback in a "sandwich" manner. First, describe to the students something great that they did in their work (in a precise/specific way). Then, describe an area for growth. Wrap up the feedback by identifying one part of their work in which you noticed growth.

@RutgersAltRoute A4: in #esl I find that being able to differentiate my lessons can have a positive outcome. Students are familiar with a topic but their language might not allow them to express it, so I give them the option on how to express their answer. #AltRtEd #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A3 praise effort not just intelligence, make sure to give more time for all students to write a response and call on those who may think they can't do it and show they can, emphasize the importance of mistakes in the learning process #AltRtEd #growthmindset

For Question 3, consider your role i.e teacher, administrator, parent. Think about your current practices or things you'd like to do in the future. #AltRtEd #Growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2: differentiated assignments will also provide students performing at different levels the opportunity to perceive a sense of achievement, thus reinforcing positive beliefs in their abilities, which can lead them to shift to a growth mindset #AltRtEd

@RutgersAltRoute A2 Create a safe space where students feel comfortable taking academic risks & praise for effort not intelligence (climate), differentiated materials that are challenging not overwhelming (input); & specific feedback to encourage high quality responses. #AltRtEd #Growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A2: Teachers can make clear expectations for students to follow by modeling successful answers and critical thinking; allowing all students to get a chance to participate in classroom discussions; making sure all materials are accessible for students. #AltRtEd #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A1: I teach K-1 ESL, I have some students that claim that they don't know how to read. And they just really lack confidence in their ability to learn. We talk about the language we use to talk about ourselves and learning. And when I encourage them to... #AltRtEd #Growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A:1 Mindset can help fuel student's growth in the their learning and developing by pushing them to meet high expectations and knowing they can get their. However, it can hinder on students/teachers who believe they are doing all they can and nothing more. #AltRtEd #growthmindset

@RutgersAltRoute A5: Schools & teachers should consider that one size does not fit all. School policies can allow for individualized behavior intervention strategy plans. Teachers can try different behavior strategies to find the ones that best work to support each student. #AltRtEd #SpEd

@RutgersAltRoute A5: I feel that we must understand our students as a whole in order to support out students with learning disabilities. I try to be as flexible as possible, understanding that is not one fit all policy. #AltRtEd #Sped

@RutgersAltRoute #AltRtEd #Sped A4 virtual learning presents the greater challenge because we can't control distractions. BUT checklists will help. Make sure they complete them virtually with proof. In person- seating, fidget tools, pass out your papers, allow them to go for a walk when needed
