I think his clock may have just started honestly. In addition to the team going young, after next season there is a real logjam with the F group entering pro hockey. He's kind of put himself in a position where he's got a handful of high-level prospects who could benefit from top line ice time in the A to develop, but you can only give that amount of ice time to 3-6 guys. So, let's say the team in Rockford has this roster in 2 seasons: Vanacker - Greene- Lardis Nestrasil - Mustard - Pridham Savoie - Thompson- Spellacy Behm - Misiak - West? This is also assuming Moore/Boisvert/Frondell/Slaggert are on the Hawks at that point... Plus you factor in their 2 first rounders and 3 second rounders next draft... All this to say, he's going to have to make some big moves sooner than later. Probably next off-season because you can't focus on the draft if you don't have a place for these guys to play and the necessary ice time to let their games develop. And I think *those* decisions, the prospects he decides to keep, prospects he decides to trade away AND NHL talent to trade for... those will be the ones that ultimately decide how long his tenure will be. And I think they'll know by the end of the '27 season if he's a good GM, or just good at scouting.

@JFreshHockey I think we can all agree at this point that Wyatt Kaiser is a pretty damn good dman... There was no reason to keep Levshunov up in Chicago all season. This has nothing to do with what he could be in the future. He was not ready for the NHL last year or this year. #Blackhawks

@Harian_Mossa At this stage of the rebuild yes. From a win/loss perspective, the Sharks were 38-42. Hawks were 28-53. Id feel much better about this group with their record.

The problem is that development can't happen when they're routinely getting caved in as a group. Look at how long it's taken for Korchinski to get his confidence back after that 1st season. And I know he had the death of his father as well and that's a factor, but there is no development to be gained from going out and getting your ass kicked night after night and wondering if you have what it takes to play at this level. Go sign Tuch if he's available, go trade for Knies or Robertson or whoever they want for the top 6. Go get a top pair defenseman. Insulate these kids a bit so they don't feel like they have to do it all. If they prove that they're truly ready and can help this team win, then deal with it, that's a great spot to be in. But if you run this back and start the season 2-8 next year, and THEN try to fix it, you're dealing from a position of weakness and teams aren't likely to make a big trade that early in the season. Then were looking at another bottom 5-10 finish. That wouldn't be development, that would be stagnation.

Davidson has said for two straight years now something along the lines of "I expect us to take a step in the standings next year". Yet two years in a row of the same spot essentially. He needs to alter this roster for next season. Not saying give up on the rebuild and sell the farm for talent. But there's a balance between the two philosophies that he's yet to find. Guys got 4 first rounders in the next two drafts, 5 seconds, a full barn of F prospects. GO. GET. SOMEONE. If the kids surprise you and all take a big step, then deal with it at the deadline and move someone to make a spot. But he needs to start dealing from a position of strength rather than just hoping that all these kids will pan out and hit their potential in their 2nd and 3rd years. Stop "trying" to go get players and go. fucking. get. some. help.

My problem with Blashill is his "internal metrics". If your internal metrics say that Burakovsky was generating chances for and that he was a positive influence on the ice, your internal metrics fucking suck and can't be relied upon. I also find it concerning that what he's saying to the media vs how the team actually plays doesn't match. He says he hates "poke and hope" and wants to play more physical especially on defense, yet none of the players do it. And when they do the poke and hope, he doesn't ever hold them accountable... I get wanting to be positive and build the guys up, but when they consistently do the opposite of what you preach ALL SEASON, something's not right. Either the message isn't landing, or the guys are too confused by his teaching and feel like they can't play physical and be where they're expected to be at the same time.

@OviClapBomb He needs to understand that not everyone is a center. It's insane to spread Bedard, Nazar, and Frondell out into three different lines.

Could things have gone better? Of course. But all things considered, I think this season has been a step forward. #Blackhawks

Hurricanes goal: Miller comes out of the box to make it 5-1. Burakovsky passed it backward to nobody while Knight was tapping his stick, which gave the Canes a 3-on-1. That was brutal

It's all lip service man. They're dead last in the league in hits and 5th last in blocked shots while giving up more shots than any other team. The only forward consistently willing to battle in front of the net is Bertuzzi. And the D just let guys park in the crease while they play whack-a-puck. This team has zero clue what a physical presence is.

Asked Slaggert about "training" yesterday: "It's been our mantra, we have it on the wall, 'Fight For Your Teammates'...it falls on us to bring a physical presence. I don't think that means we're starting a line brawl or anything but just that ability to stick up for teammates."

The Blackhawks held a fight camp this morning with Vlasic, Crevier, Rinzel, Del Mastro, Boisvert, and Slaggert in attendance:

IMO their lack of willingness to stand up for each other and fight when necessary doesn't stem from a lack of knowledge on how to fight, it's that they are simply uninterested in fighting. Can't teach will. You also don't need to know how to fight in order to hit. The D has 11 hits over their last 3 games as a whole... Obviously physicality alone doesn't win hockey games, but when you're THIS avoidant to physical play, you're not going to win many hockey games.

I was told this wasn't a fighting instructor, but actually Blackhawks pro scout Wade Brookbank who was brought in to teach some of the young players how to defend themselves.
