Overpay in the transfer market or overpay on the pitch? I know which I would rather. Whilst I don’t believe we should overpay as a rule, this Summer we watch an inflated market where those around us are overpaying to seal their top targets. City overpaid for Anderson. Spurs have overpaid for Fernandes. Someone will overpay for Tonali. Bournemouth are unwilling to sell Scott and if that changes it will require an inflated fee also. The same is likely to be the case for Ayyoub Bouaddi. Maybe these buying teams look silly now (ambitious to others), but when they are winning matches next season with their new signings helping them climb the table, who will look silly? Not them. I have an issue with Fernandes £250k wage demands. But would we have paid the £85m if not for that? Probably not. And that is my problem. Do we keep walking away until we are faced with a skeletal midfield? To a midfield full of kids that aren’t ready? Eventually overpay but for mediocre targets? This midfield rebuild is edging toward disaster.

United have already held talks with Tchouameni so they must have an idea of his projected wages. The fact he’s still on the list tells me it hasn’t scared United off and maybe we make him the exception because of his experience and being the Casemiro replacement. At least I hope so. That’s not to say a Saudi club don’t swan in and offer ridiculous wages and turn his head. Because that could absolutely happen too. I hope we find a pathway to bringing him to Old Trafford 🤞🏻

Anderson chose a Pepless City, for money. Mateus Fernandes chose Spurs over his preferred Manchester United and the chance to play alongside his idol, for money. Sandro Tonali’s heart is in Italy but he refuses to go back home because of money. You’d think these players were rejecting minimum wage, not 150k+ a week. Bruno Fernandes I appreciate you *even more* after seeing you reject GENERATIONAL wealth to follow your heart and stay loyal. This is how you separate the men from the boys.

Matues Fernandes is not worth £85m but the market is inflated. Baleba and Alex Scott (our alternatives) will be a similar fee. Personally think United should've paid up and got it done even if the price is a JOKE for a relegated player.
