@LanterneRougeYT and lead-out build too focussed on last man, with even a top leadout rider like Van Poppel being unable to make a huge difference most of the time in the 2023 TDF having to compete with several Alpecin rouleurs

One of the biggest mistakes in WorldTour squad construction in the last few years: - over-investment in one-dimensional sprinters - under-investment in high quality lead-out riders If you combine the two, points / wins ROI will tank Alpecin have succeeded in doing the opposite

@RyanDuff99 Yes, but it says more about how uncompetitive Ineos has become in comparison to UAE and Jumbo than about QS because let's be real: Hirt couldnt do anything for Remco yesterday and it was far from the hardest stage of the race

By the way, Jan Hirt of the "can never give Remco the support he needs" Quick Step B team got dropped from the GC group at the same time as the best placed finisher from the "impervious, Grand Tour demolishing" Ineos Grenadiers

@RyanDuff99 2nd option because winning the 1.1 races is seemingly no longer even a challenge for him, he could still do some of them to keep his confidence up but the balance is off right now and he should be trying the Vuelta

As a developing sprinter, what's more helpful: Riding smaller races and practicing shooting gaps and racing for the win Or Riding big races and getting used to the speed and chaos of racing the fastest guys, even if you can only follow the wheels Genuine question

@BenjiNaesen @sporza_koers @sporza That is a really strong team, the only criticism I could think of is it's low on sprinters. Meeus at 5m seems like a better option than Van Gils to me

@BenjiNaesen Bennett has only won 1 race this season despite having the Van Poppel leadout. If anything Bora should have paired DVP with Meeus earlier because he's been getting decent sprint results with next to no help for 2 years now.

Sam Bennett left home from the #TDF2023 in favour of Jordi Meeus, who gets the Danny van Poppel lead-out. Even in imperfect form, Bennett can compete for a TDF sprint from the wheel of Danny van Poppel. Looking forward to see if Meeus can step up & deliver. Thoughts? ⤵️

That Gino Mäder touched many hearts and minds all over the world with his actions, became apparent to us over the last few days. We received over 700 donations that were done out of his name from fans honouring his legacy.

@RyanDuffCycling When he barges into Govekar his front wheel doesn't overlap with Bennett's back wheel anymore and he is no longer effectively in danger. Of course, I agree the situation doesn't exist without Bennett but he makes this move to contest the sprint, not because he was going to crash

If there was a pre-Tour de France trade window in cycling, what would be the trade you would most like to see? I'll start: Fabio Jakobsen (QST) sign & trade for Bob Jungels (Bora)

Very impressed by 19 year old (turning 20 tomorrow) Stian Fredheim making this group of otherwise very experienced and mostly high profile riders, great rouleur and classics prospect Uno-X have in their hands

@chris_sssss @NaichacaCycling People peak for important races and in the races he targeted Remco climbed like a maniac, Jonas also lost 4 stage races last year and you can't deny that he is a generational climber

@NaichacaCycling Remco is excellent in ITT. If he was a generational climber than he would hardly lose stage races...but last year he lost FOUR of them.

After what we saw last week, who do you think will win Le Tour de France 2023? Personally I'm still very convinced of Jonas Vingegaard as winner (unless Remco decides to ride the Tour all of a sudden).

@SendRaces It is more about Vingegaard only having the TdF 2022 on that level while Pogi proved his exceptional talent many many times.

@cyclingtakes There is also no other team that could have given Wout as good a leadout on the Calais stage as Jumbo, and if Wout didn't have Jonas on his team Jonas might have gone faster in the last TT to beat him there as well, so Wout profits a lot from being on Jumbo if anything

Unpopular opinion: Wout Van Aert was able to do his own thing in the Tour and still help Jonas Vingegaard WITHOUT really sacrificing his own chances. (1/4)

@SupertuckBlog True, until you consider Remco goes to giro to win to get a green jersey the tour is clearly a better show
