@johndory1914 I do like to wear my Gokey boots with my Barbour jacket. Not many others have them.

There is this rare moment when you meet another person from Frankfurt, Barbour jacket, horn-rimmed glasses, etc, and you briefly check each other out as if you were members of a secret society

Evaluating our options for courtyard and side gates Not going metal- they just corrode and do not fare well with this much sun and coastal salt air Wood needs so much maintenance - staining and then of course fighting termites So I'm looking at composite decking materials Anyone built fences or gates with TimberTech? Its kinda flexible, and only 1 side looks like this. So would screwing 2 pieces together work? And will it give it enough rigidity to not flex or warp in full sun? Maybe put a piece of metal in the middle of the 2 pieces and then on top (curved top) 2 courtyard gates would be 5 feet high and the side gate would be 6+ feet high

Jon Gibson's 1983 archaeological reconstruction of the Poverty Point, Louisiana site as it was in 1600-1400 B.C. and the large bird effigy mound at the site as it is now (except the 200 school children shown on the mound are likely not on it at this moment).

It is unironically t-shirt weather today in Vail. In March. At least it’s good concrete pouring weather!

@UrbanCourtyard It's sad that a person like David Duffield ($10billion net worth) can't build in Tahoe. He owns the old Bonaza land in Incline Village. Nicest guy, but if he wanted to build a town square with locals as tenants it would be blocked. Now he's made to buy houses for his employees.

biggest "uncanny valley moment" of 2025 was taking kids to Orlando for vacation, and strolling into the new Epic Universal theme park to discover that they had RECREATED Haussmann's Paris very very weird to have your niche urbanism twitter obsession come to life in Orlando.

Amazing. Thanks, it’s an America problem because car costs and commuting burdens are much higher here than they are in countries with better cities. Here are families paying thousands/day to vacation in Orlando which can create a walkable city because people don’t actually live here (illegal to build this is American cities now due to harmful zoning rules favoring SFH and large apartment buildings)

@donnyyoung @ShannonJean Living in Tahoe, it's amazing how many super rich families don't care about anything in the house. The parents die, and the kids just want to get rid of the stuff & sell the property.

Warning, controversial post incoming: I paid off our house. I know that's not what we're supposed to do, but I can't stand being in debt. But wait, it gets worse. I bought a 2nd house, and we paid that one off as well. Again, all the smart people told me that it was a mistake. So naturally, I bought a 3rd house, and guess what? I paid off that m'fer as well. Every situation is unique. Advice that is good for one person may not fit another. Owning paid off assets has given me incredible freedom to experiment, have fun, and create my uncommon life. I know I could have made more money by investing those funds and taking out mortgages on these homes, but I've got plenty of other investments. Plus, I get to feel pretty gangster rolling up my driveway knowing I don't have the bank looking over my shoulder. That feeling is priceless.

@donnyyoung @ShannonJean I've never even thought about reselling, but my wife has been buying stuff on the west that no cares about, but is valuable elsewhere. She bought a Stanley Korshak fur that is worth 3x in Dallas vs West Coast. They didn't even know the brand!

This community college is liquidating its entire physical library. The building is being torn down. One of the auctions had 1,600 books selling for $120. So I went to investigate. I even used ChatGPT to analyze the books for resale. In the end… I walked away. Here’s what I learned. 👇 — Follow me @donnyoung if you enjoy seeing the behind-the-scenes of auctions, liquidation, and real reseller decisions.
