In addition to time spent coaching, looking at the specific coaching activities can be helpful. If coaches are doing a lot of modeling, how do they move on to co-teaching and observing teachers implementing lessons? Always looking to build teachers' capacity. #educoach

@KathyPerret @Kidsmathtalk Oh, those additional tasks! They do prevent coaches from spending the majority of working directly with teachers - which is critical if coaching is to impact student learning. #educoach

@Kidsmathtalk But, how is the later "coaching". I get that schools are short-staffed. But I don't see how taking students and teaching separately is considered coaching. #educoach

A5: the role of coaching is becoming more defined but it’s blurring with what coaching used to be. Also not everyone believes that coaches should partner. Some believe coaches should take kids and teach separately #educoach

Trying to avoid the use of "I" is a goal of many coaches. Instead of saying "I liked it when . . .", coaches are saying "It was effective when you (did this) because the students were aboe to . . . #educoach

@IAteacherNan @mrs_bahn I agree that some coaching cycles focus more on teacher practice than immediate student learning - such as how to start and manage small group instruction and what the other students will be doing while the teacher is running the small groups. #educoach

@mrs_bahn Also -- several of our cycles did not fit the student-centered focus, since teachers were asking for help with classroom management or student engagement. #educoach

@TeacherDaulton Modeling is such an important part of most coaching cycles - and is research-supported in terms of impact on student learning. And modeling is certainly low-risk for teachers. #educoach

A2: I am fortunate to be included on the Instructional Leadership Team at both of my schools. This helps me stay current on the needs of each school at a broader scale. I have weekly meetings with admin to update each other and discuss any needs or concerns. #educoach

Principals who establish schedules that include common grade-level planning time really enables coaches to support a whole grade level - really helps coaches make the best use of their time. #educoach

@mrs_bahn And that might include providing support during crunch times - such as doing a read aloud so the teacher can complete some individual formative assessments or helping to organize a classroom library when a set of new books arrives. #educoach

A1- Being new to my building I am really focusing on relationship-building by listening to teachers, providing support in any way I can, and establishing myself as someone who works hard and can be trusted. And also fun! #educoach

As Yvette said, being responsive is so important. To me, that includes following through on the commitments you make to teachers. It's sometimes hard not to over-commit. #educoach

@mrbgilson And there's research to show that teachers actually find it helpful when coaches watch a vidoed lesson and develop reflective questions for teachers to consider before meeting with the coach to discuss the lesson.#G2Great

A7: This is tricky, I guess I could invite people to my Zoom class? In person I was not comfortable with people being in my room for even 10 minutes. But I do think video lessons and then debriefs would be a great way to do it. #g2great

@SHKrajewski @DrMaryHoward Short pieces seem doable to teachers - even in this very busy, strange time. Article excerpts - where the coach gives a brief background abour the article and then highlights one or two paragraphs for discussion has also worked well. #G2Great

I see that as well Sarah so I think that now many teachers are focusing on shorter texts like articles or blogs. Our learning can also be our lifeline but finding a manageable way to approach it is key at a time like this! #G2Great

A3 Like coaches, principals are busy people. so, if we go to them with a problem, it's great if we have two or three possible solutions to talk through with the principal - rather than ask him or her to come up with a solution. #G2Great.

A2. Christy made a great point about being a good listener! As coaches, we sometimes tend to dominate the conversations without realizing it. Audio recording a few of our conversations will help us know if we are listening as much (or more) than we're talking. #G2Great

A2 In line with Brent's comment, What instructional moves helped the students meet the lesson's objectives? What factors may have impeded all students from meeting the lesson's objectives? #G22Great
