@Of_Bourke @VisionaryVoid Yep. He was also the grandson of Queen Victoria.
English

@VisionaryVoid The Kaiser was also a British officer.
A Field Marshal from memory
English

The POW Who Kept His Promise to the Kaiser.
In 1914, British Captain Robert Campbell of the East Surrey Regiment was severely wounded and captured by German forces just weeks into World War I. For two long years, he languished in the Magdeburg prisoner-of-war camp, completely cut off from his family.
In late 1916, Campbell received devastating news: his mother in England was dying of cancer. Desperate to see her one last time, he took a wildly improbable shot in the dark. He wrote a personal letter directly to Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, begging for a brief compassionate leave.
Astonishingly, the Kaiser personally granted the request. The German leader offered Campbell two weeks of leave to visit his dying mother in Kent, on one single condition. Campbell had to give his "word as a British officer" that he would voluntarily return to the enemy prison camp when the fortnight was up.
Campbell traveled across war-torn Europe by boat and train, reached his family home in Gravesend, and spent a precious final week with his mother before she passed away. He then did the unthinkable: he kissed his remaining family goodbye, packed his bags, and traveled right back to Germany.
Honoring his word, Captain Campbell walked directly back into the Magdeburg POW camp and surrendered himself to his captors. He spent the next two years imprisoned until the war finally ended in 1918, proving that for some men, honor holds far more weight than freedom.

May 16, 1963. Gordon Cooper was orbiting Earth alone inside a capsule barely big enough to turn around in, moving at 17,500 miles per hour.
He had been up there for over a day.
Then the warnings started.
First a faulty sensor screaming that the ship was falling — it wasn't. He switched it off. Then something far worse: a short circuit knocked out the entire automated guidance system. The one that kept the capsule steady. The one that was supposed to bring him home.
Without it, reentry was nearly impossible.
Too shallow an angle and the capsule would bounce off the atmosphere back into space. Too steep and it would incinerate. The margin for error was razor thin — and every computer that was supposed to hit that margin was dead.
Down on the ground, NASA engineers watched the telemetry in silence. They could see everything going wrong. They could fix nothing.
Cooper didn't panic.
He uncapped a grease pencil and drew lines directly on the inside of his window to track the horizon. He looked up at the stars he had spent months memorizing and used their positions to orient the ship by eye. Then he set his wristwatch.
Because when you have no computers left, you become the computer.
At exactly the right moment — calculated in his head, confirmed by the stars outside — he fired the retrorockets. The capsule shook. The sky turned to fire. For several minutes, no one on Earth could reach him as plasma swallowed the ship whole.
Then the parachutes opened.
Faith 7 hit the water just four miles from the recovery ship — the single most accurate splashdown in the entire Mercury program.
The man with a wristwatch and a few pencil marks on a window had outperformed every automated system NASA had.
We talk a lot about technology saving us. And it often does.
But Cooper's story is a quiet reminder that behind every machine, there still has to be a human being who can look out the window, think clearly under pressure, and decide what to do next.
The final backup was never the software.
It was him.

Incredible.
>British police say facial recognition cameras should be used to catch criminals.
>The cameras catch criminals.

@Serg_1919 @TOMASZBURZYNSKI W kotłach pod Wiaźmą i Brińskiem w 1941 Niemcy rozbili głównie etnicznych Rosjan i Ukraińców.
„Azjatyccy nędzarze” przyszli masowo dopiero później – pod Moskwę w listopadzie. W tych okrążeniach było ich bardzo mało.
Polski

"Ladies and gentlemen, I beseech you.
Resist it while you still can, and before the right to complain is taken away from you, which will be the next thing. You will be told you can't complain because you're Islamophobic.
The term is already being introduced into the culture, as if it was an accusation of race hatred, for example, or bigotry, whereas it's only the objection to the preachings of a very extreme and absolutist religion. Watch out for these symptoms. They are not just symptoms of surrender. Very often ecumenically offered to you by men of God in other robes, Christian and Jewish and smarmy ecumenical, these are the ones who will hold open the gates for the barbarians.
The barbarians never take a city until someone holds the gates open for them. And it's your own preachers who will do it for you, and your own multicultural authorities who will do it for you.
Resist it while you can.
And if you wonder what will happen if you don't, look and see how a cricket team in Middlesex in England had to change its name by force last week, because it was called and had been for years the Middlesex Crusaders. Look and see how stories about little pigs can't be taught to children in English schools anymore, lest offense be taken by the religion of peace."

Wszyscy uwielbiają wymądrzać się na temat tej mapki i niskich wskaźników dzietności, lecz niewiele osób jest gotowych zaakceptować podstawową prawdę - że nic nie da się z tym zrobić.
Pamiętajcie: lepiej, żeby w Polsce żyło 20 milionów białych Polaków i 20 milionów androidów/robotów z Boston Dynamics niż 20 milionów białych Polaków i 20 milionów murzynów, raszidków i pakoli.

This is insane.
I obviously have a position on this, but forget that for a second. Just from a basic democracy perspective, you simply cannot make a fundamental change to the immigration system that cuts immigration from similar cultures (i.e. EU migratjon) to zero while exponentially increasing migration from cultures massively different without public buy in. You cannot sneak something in like this through the backdoor without a public debate
Look, if an election was fought on this, if one party said "we want to massively increase the number of foreigners with a different culture and different religion, while will inevitably change the culture and demographics of the country " as their election platform, and then they won and enacted that policy, I wouldnt like it, but i would accept it. If thats what the people want, even though I disagree, I accept it. Thats democracy.
But they didnt do that. Instead, they snuck a wholesale change to immigration policy in through the backdoor, and hoped you wouldnt notice. And when you did, they gaslit you and called you racist. And when the rape rate went parabolic, and ppl started noticing they didnt recognize the towns they grew up in, and ppl complained on social media, they brought in the jack boots and started hauling grandmothers out of their beds at 2 AM for making posts critical of immigration policy.
This is not democracy and there is somethibg very insidious about all of this. Why did they do it? Because "economics"?
None of this makes any sense.

@Ryanmatta Macgregor doesn’t have a good track record with his predictions. It’s good clickbait material, but that’s about it.

Antarctica is colder and more icebound today than at any point in the past 5,000 years.
Research by Hall (2023) found that West Antarctica cooled by more than 1.8 C between 1999 and 2018.
Satellite data confirm continent-wide cooling, as do multiple glacier studies.
Pacini (2024) found the Collins Glacier was 1 km farther back 6,000 years ago and began re-advancing about 1,000 years ago, which is clear evidence of cooling since the medieval warm period.
Even the biology of the continent documents this shift.
A millennium ago, the Ross Sea hosted around 200,000 elephant seals as far south as 78 degrees. Today, those colonies are gone. They disappeared as the region froze over, too cold and ice-choked for breeding or foraging.
As the Hall paper concludes: the last few centuries, including the present, represent the coldest, iciest conditions in the post-glacial period.
Modern Antarctica is not warming, it's freezing.
