@gregallenRTE Ronnie very kindly came here about 10 years ago and made a wonderful speech. He wouldn’t accept payment - instead we had a raffle for his favourite charity. It was inspiring.

I grew up with the sense that there was no one more famous than Ronnie Delany. After his 1956 Olympic Gold it would be 36 years before Ireland would win another. A legend, inspiration & a thorough gentleman. A privilege to have known him & make this radio documentary with Damien.

Some horrible news from the DP event in South Africa. Andrea Pavan, 2-time DP winner was badly injured in a freak accident at this week’s event. According to multiple people Pavan fell down an elevator shaft after the doors opened on the floor he was on but the car itself wasn’t there. He fell multiple floors and was badly injured. Although from the people i spoke with the injuries don’t seem to be life-threatening, he was in surgery for hours. Keep Andrea and his family in your thoughts.

Looking back almost 50 years to the 1978 Irish Open when the fairways were striped, the spectator village filled the driveway, and the 9th on the Yellow Nine became a car park. One of many championships we’re proud to have hosted and remember fondly.
