The Eagles have signed TE Stone Smartt, per NFL Network Some thoughts/info on the signing: ** Smartt is 6-4, 226 pounds and will turn 28 in October. The former college QB was a UDFA in the 2022 NFL Draft. He ran a 4.62 40. ** Smartt spent his first three years with the Chargers before signing with the Jets last season. He has 38 catches in 4 seasons for 432 yards and 1 TD. His best moment is a 51-yard catch-and-run TD vs. GB. He has never played more than 28% of the snaps on offense. ** Smartt has upside as a receiving TE. That is the skill set to be intrigued by. Excited to watch him in camp. ** This deal is almost certainly nothing more than a training camp try out and likely contains very little guaranteed money. Smartt will compete with Calcaterra, Mundt and EJ Jenkins for a roster spot. ** His pass/run blocking grades on PFF are not good, although the pass-blocking snaps are a very small sample size (only 22). He has 231 run-blocking snaps in 4 seasons. So blocking so far has not been his strength.
