TLDR: Our brain works on algorithms just like computers. You don't say? There is a reason Scripture tells us in Phillipians 4:8 "Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." The Bible told us to protect our minds before anyone knew about neuroplasticity or computers or algorithms. So exciting to see these synchronicities between Gods Word and science! So do you dwell on drama? If your brain produces more of what you spend the most time thinking about, watching, listening to...and you feed your mind with negativity, you worry, and are constantly seeking out fearful subjects...what do you expect? Just like an algorithm, your brain will churn up more internal thoughts to align with the negative input. And the body will respond too, and produce more cortisol and adrenaline...all to reinforce those fears, worries and to feed your desire for drama. But when you feed your mind with positive information, happy and productive mental 'food'... when you actively seek out good stories, happy or virtuous subjects? Then your mind will create more good thoughts and ideas, to reinforce your desire for peace, productivity and joy. Your body will then produce good feelings, dopamine, serotonin etc to reinforce the positive 'algorithm'. So be careful what you spend your time on! Feed your mind good food.😊

So, this is happening. Nichole and I just made an offer on a new home in Nevada. Like an hour ago. We’re here. Our 20year-old son just called. We’re on the cusp of evacuating our home in Thousand Oaks, California because of the “Sandy Fire,” map attached. Now, we’re driving back south to meet him and our dog in a desert hotel north of LA. This is real life. How ironic, California. The reason we’re leaving in a story. My story.

A church in Atlanta was honoring one of its senior pastors who had been retired many years. He was 92 at that time and I wondered why the church even bothered to ask the old gentleman to preach at that age. After a warm welcome, introduction of this speaker, and as the applause quieted down, he rose from his high back chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a sliding gait to the podium. Without a note or written paper of any kind he placed both hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and slowly he began to speak.... "When I was asked to come here today and talk to you, your pastor asked me to tell you what was the greatest lesson ever learned in my 50-odd years of preaching. I thought about it for a few days and boiled it down to just one thing that made the most difference in my life and sustained me through all my trials. The one thing that I could always rely on when tears and heartbreak and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me... The only thing that would comfort was this verse.... "Jesus loves me this I know. For the Bible tells me so. Little ones to Him belong, We are weak but He is strong..... Yes, Jesus loves me.... The Bible tells me so." The old pastor stated, "I always noticed that it was the adults who chose the children's hymn 'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during a hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see they knew it the best." "Here for you now is a Senior version of Jesus Loves Me": JESUS LOVES ME Jesus loves me, this I know, Though my hair is white as snow Though my sight is growing dim, Still He bids me trust in Him. ADHD here. But mine is mostly in the mind. Racing thoughts, ruminating, etc. Can't focus unless it's hyperfocus time. Then my body has a lot of energy, and only then. Intense mental focus + physical productivity often coincide for me. Otherwise it's low physical output but high mental chaos. A cup of coffee is a relaxing treat for me. Relaxes my mind, calms thoughts etc. Monster zero energy drink daily. Replaces that sugary soda craving for that zippy refreshing drink in TX heat. But don't really ever feel a physical energy spike from them.

Yes!! So true. I get a very small uptick in energy with caffeine. But mainly it calms me down. My morning or evening cup of coffee is relaxing and cozy, calming to my mind. And I have a Monster zero for a cold zippy, non sugary drink in the daytime, which perfectly replaces my cola craving. Refreshing! But not sure if it does anything for my energy levels, honestly.

I just had the craziest experience at the airport. We are about to board a flight to Atlanta when the pilot from the incoming plane walks out of the jetway. Guy is probably late 50s, salt and pepper hair, military look. The kind of pilot you instantly feel good about seeing on your flight. Pilot walks over to the counter, gets on the PA system, and starts addressing everyone. “Folks, I’ve been doing this a long time. Flying one of these jets is easy. The hard part is looking at 130 people and telling them their flight is going to be delayed.” Audible groans throughout the boarding gate. Most people here are flying to Atlanta as a layover before another flight. 130 people just had their day become a complete mess. The pilot goes on. “I get it, trust me. But here’s the deal: During our landing, we had a small mechanical issue. I’m not your pilot for the next leg, but I don’t feel confident the jet’s safe to fly until we have a mechanical team look it over, and I don’t feel comfortable asking the next pilots to fly you guys until we get confirmation.” He points at the agents next to him behind the counter: “Now, none of this is the agents’ fault. Please be kind to them. I’m the one who made this decision, not them, so any inconvenience you experience is my fault. Just please know that I don’t do this lightly, and I’m only doing it because I believe it’s in the best interests of everyone’s safety.” Now this is where the story gets crazy. The pilot puts the microphone down, grabs his suitcase, and all the people in the gate… Start clapping. I’m not joking, everyone starts clapping for the guy. 130 people who just had their travel plans ruined give an ovation to the guy who made the decision and delivered the message. All because he addressed them with decency and transparency, took ownership of the decision, made it clear that it was necessary, and explained why it was in everyone’s best interest. It’s honestly one of the best examples of strong communication—of strong leadership, for that matter—that I’ve seen in a long time. @Delta, whoever your Atlanta to Wichita pilot was this morning, he’s one of the good ones. Please tell him the delayed passengers of flight 1637 appreciate what he did.
