Another huge breakthrough for me in a Blender to Godot workflow... Using Blender's custom properties to pass data on to Godot with its Blender live link. What do I mean? First image is in Blender where I'm building the level.
This box has a custom property I made, that triggers a message (third image) in my game. This one's simple. Just tells the player they have a flashlight.
This is HUGE to just build in Blender for my game.

@ZorinOS @usebottles @inkscape @winboat_app @dublinlinux @TechK252452 Many thanks for recognising and donating to the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) project!
English

This Holiday Season, we’re giving back to the world of Linux & Open Source by donating to 10 amazing projects and communities 🎁
- GNU Image Manipulation Program (@GIMP_Official) received €500 from Zorin OS. The GNU Image Manipulation Program is a powerful image editor that's perfect for beginners & experts who want to retouch photos and create visual content. Our team uses the GNU Image Manipulation Program as a tool when creating Zorin OS, and it's included in Zorin OS Pro.
- Dash to Panel received $500 CAD from Zorin OS (contributed throughout 2025). The Dash to Panel extension provides a user-friendly taskbar for the GNOME desktop environment. It builds on top of the Zorin Taskbar codebase we originally created in 2016, and the great work by the Dash to Panel team contributes back upstream into Zorin OS.
- Bottles (@usebottles) received €500 from Zorin OS. Bottles makes it easier to use Windows software on Linux by creating containerised environments. It has a database of Windows apps and game launchers that tailor each container for maximum compatibility. Bottles is included as a default component of the Windows App Support feature in Zorin OS.
- Kdenlive received €500 from Zorin OS. Kdenlive is a video editing app that offers advanced editing features, a variety of effects & transitions, colour correction, audio post-production, and rendering tools. It's a capable alternative to software like Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and VEGAS Pro, and it's included in Zorin OS Pro.
- Inkscape (@inkscape) received $500 USD from Zorin OS. Inkscape is a vector graphics editor similar to CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator. It offers a rich set of features and is widely used for both artistic and technical illustrations, such as cartoons, clip art, logos, typography, diagramming, and UI prototyping. We use Inkscape to help us design and build Zorin OS. It's also pre-installed in Zorin OS Pro.
- Tiling Shell received €500 from Zorin OS (contributed throughout 2025). The Tiling Shell extension powers the advanced window tiling feature introduced in Zorin OS 18. It allows you to drag a window to the top of the screen, and a pop-up will appear where you can drop it on one of the predefined layouts to arrange your windows. This feature makes advanced window tiling intuitive for both newcomers and power users, boosting productivity for everyone.
- Krita received €500 from Zorin OS. Krita is a digital art studio, perfect for sketching and painting. It's widely used by artists for creating concept art, comics, textures for rendering, and matte paintings, and it's included in Zorin OS Pro.
- WinBoat (@winboat_app) received $500 USD from Zorin OS. WinBoat is an exciting new project with the goal of running virtually any Windows app on Linux, seamlessly through a containerised Windows environment. It's currently pre-release software and a work in progress. However, it represents a promising step towards being able to run all of your favourite Windows apps in Zorin OS in the near future.
- Dublin Linux Community (@dublinlinux) received €500 from Zorin OS (contributed throughout 2025). The Dublin Linux Community helps to spread Linux and Open Source software in our hometown of Dublin, Ireland. They organise meetups and events, like the End of Windows 10 Linux Install Fest, which our team collaborated on earlier this year.
- Tech Bridges to Malawi (@TechK252452) received $500 USD from Zorin OS. Tech Bridges to Malawi is a family-run philanthropic endeavour that delivers Zorin OS-powered computers with educational content and training to schools in rural Malawi, Africa. Their amazing work has already impacted the lives of 14,000 students, providing kids in one of the poorest countries in the world with a better education and a brighter future.
We believe these donations will advance the missions of the above projects and make Linux & the Open Source ecosystem an even stronger alternative to Big Tech, for the benefit of all.
None of this would be possible without the support of those who contributed to Zorin OS by purchasing Zorin OS Pro or donating directly. We want to extend an enormous thanks to each and every one of you!
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Holiday Season! Here's to an incredible 2026 🎉

@always_has_bean @obakasahara Hmmm 🤔,I don't want to pop the OP bubbles but I can make many of these texture less than 2 minute with my phone's camera and a walk in the park.

@onlyoddly @Swans_Gone @baptisttexan I love seeing AI clips like this..it inspired me to create a world of wonder...a true wonder and to live and experience that wonder.
English

@Swans_Gone @baptisttexan in the end people are yearning for a sense of wonder. some will never be happy until this exact image is 1:1 recreated, but overall a poor showing from most of the indie devs who can't aspire to this sense of beauty, scale and aesthetic sense.

A ton of indie devs are pretending their games have the same feel as the OP’s post and it’s embarrassing

@TokisanGames I'm making open world but I don't need any foliage...because the game doesn't need any of that...right now I'm using blender to sculpt the terrain and paint splat map.Be a ot nicer to do it in engine.
English

I don't understand. You left another comment saying you only needed a simple terrain, implying you agree it's better for it to be separate so you can choose. Here you say you want one integrated, and advanced enough to handle an open world. So high performance, lods, foliage, memory management, etc.
English

People often ask me "When will Terrain3D be integrated into #GodotEngine?"
Here are my thoughts.
* First, the core devs have made it clear they don't want any terrain built into the engine. Terrain3D is the best terrain system for Godot IMO, but there are other good ones you might want to use. This is their main reason, which I agree with.
* Other 3D engines include terrain, while 2D engines don't. Godot is both, so one could make a reasonable argument for either case.
* Godot is a large project that merges incremental changes only after being approved by multiple people. Many critical issues and finished PRs are often left hanging for years. It's a bit of a bureaucracy. This means if Terrain3D was merged in:
1. Our development would be 100x slower.
2. Our issues, roadmap, and documentation would be integrated into the mess of 5000 Godot issues and hard to find.
3. You would be stuck on the version of Terrain3D built into the engine. You could not upgrade to the latest version with new features or bug fixes.
* What I would like is a good package management system built into the engine, just like every major Linux distribution. I'd like to have both a development and a stable channel people could subscribe to, and I can push incremental updates to. People would then get updates directly in their engine and can choose to upgrade one or all plugins.
* One key issue with all open-source projects is what happens if the lead developer stops developing. That's always a risk. Either the project dies or someone forks the project and fractures the community.
What I'm hoping to do over time is to build up the Terrain3D community big enough, not so it gets integrated into the engine, but that we have enough of a core team committed to maintaining it so it's not all on my shoulders.
We currently have thousands of users and some fantastic contributors already helping us grow.
If this is important to you and you'd like to help out, you can do so by:
* Joining our discord to help the constant stream of new people coming in, freeing up my time.
* Becoming a contributor. Start off with small improvements from our issues and roadmap. Discuss plans for larger projects. Over time, join the core team.
English

@TokisanGames These Terrain3D add-ons you developing are great but for my use case...I need very simple terrain system...sculpt terrain and painting texture...no need for advance shenanigan.

@FR3NKD It's a great engine for most projects. The node limit has removed it from being able to be used efficiently in our project, otherwise we would be using it.

@Jade_shitpost @KenneyNL As long as the uv for the object are correctly unwrap...it will work..for prototype...I recommend cube projection unwrap.
English

@KenneyNL I have not used it yet, but is there textures for round objects?
for instance do the textures work well on pipes, balls, etc.
English

I'll be updating the Prototype Textures pack soon! It gets a lot of use. What are some things you'd like to see (improved)? Any requests? #gameassets
