Content pruning for SEO? is somewhat different game now - even if your pages aren't ranking well in Google or Bing's search results! Still those can end up getting used/cited in answers in AI Search surfaces which are generated using Deep Research feature because it necessarily don't just take top ranking pages in Google/Bing to generate the answer. Deep Research can take as far as 7th or 8th page of Google/Bing search results and URLs from there.

The older the average person in your industry is, the easier it is to dominate with SEO. I've been saying this for years and it's still true. When I evaluate a market, the first thing I look at is who my client is competing against. Not the review count. Not the backlink profile. The age of the business owners. If the top 3 guys in your market are all over 60, you're about to have a field day. These guys built their businesses on referrals and word of mouth. They don't understand digital marketing. They don't know what a GBP is. They think SEO is a scam because some agency burned them in 2009. Their websites look like they were built in 1970. Their GBP has 12 reviews because they never asked for more. They don't have citations. They don't have location pages. They're not even verified with a physical address. And they're making millions of dollars a year. Imagine what happens when someone shows up who actually knows what they're doing. I have clients who entered markets dominated by 30 year old companies and ranked number one in 6 months. The old guys never saw it coming. They didn't even know they lost until their phone stopped ringing. This is why I love working with trades. HVAC. Plumbing. Electrical. Roofing. Concrete. Drywall. These industries are full of talented technicians who never learned how to market. They grew up in a world where you did good work and customers found you. That world is gone. The business owners who understand digital marketing are going to eat their lunch. It doesn't matter if you've been in business for 6 months or 60 years. The algorithm doesn't care about your reputation. It cares about signals. If you're entering a market full of old timers who haven't adapted, you should be thanking them. They left the door wide open for you.
