4 yrs since Taliban takeover in Afg so Afg women erased from public. Was sealed whn US struck a deal with the Taliban, cutting out Afghan govt & civil society—like Ukrainians cut out of Trump–Putin talks today. For empire, the periphery is a mine—once drained, it’s left to burn.

No wonder the markets have been in the green today (the first day the stock exchange opened after the U.S. entered the Iran market war)

The U.S. attack on Iran is racial capitalism in action. “The Muslim” is the perpetual enemy: always fought, never vanquished. War, surveillance, and fear = profit. Iranians are the racialised other, on the death of whom capital wants to once more expand.

LA sits on stolen Indigenous land. Borders, a colonial invention, criminalize migrants—many Indigenous themselves. The original violence is not by the immigrants but by the state. And the only criminal here is the settler colonial state.

Goethe wrote in 1833 that a culture of constant news eviscerates the past and the future, leaving you no time to metabolize lessons or sketch out a plan, always pulling you into the whirlpool of Something Important Happening Somewhere

i'm not saying this to be like "calm down this is how it's always been." quite the opposite. i'm saying this because it has Always Been This Bad. this is just another example of how US institutions have always been evil, and you've just been fine with it bc you liked Obama 5/x

This was under the Biden administration in May 2024, the second NYPD raid of Columbia’s campus in two weeks. What we are seeing now is the culmination of the bipartisan efforts to criminalize every aspect of our student movement.
National Students for Justice in Palestine@NationalSJP

Remember that Biden laid the groundwork for the Trump regime by facilitating the violent repression of student organizing. The neoliberal university, a microcosm of American empire, has never been a “safe space”.

If you haven’t already joined your university’s chapter of the @AAUP, now’s the time to join. If your chapter is defunct or non existent, now’s the time to build it. We can only survive together.

ICE on abducting Tufts University student. Didn’t Trump say “there are very fine people on both sides” after white supremacista killed Heather Heyer in Charlottesville? Where is the common sense?

I don’t think anyone has ever loved sociology more than Michael Burawoy. I know that no one has ever loved their students more, or done so much to bring them together into the kind of community every scholar wants. What a beautiful life. What a devastating loss.

Deeply saddened by the passing of Michael Burawoy. A giant has fallen. I mourn him with his thousands of students and colleagues. As he would want it, we must carry on, in words of the Puerto Rican communist Consuelo Lee Corretjer, “con un hombro menos.”

Again, let the imperialist dominate the seen world, let them create the spectacle. It is from the unseen, the tunnels of the earth, the interior of the will of those proclaiming "victory or death", that the colonized emerge and renew a liberated space and time
