I am seriously concerned by reports of intimidation and violence in Stirchley yesterday and have written to the West Midlands Police to highlight these issues. The Union Jack is a symbol of unity, not division, of patriotism, not polarisation. I condemn all attempts to hijack our flag and sow violence in our communities for political gain.

Powell always said – entirely honestly – that he never made a speech about race: just speeches about immigration policy and his profound disagreement with how it was usually managed. In the Birmingham speech, he had explicitly quoted the words and detailed some experiences of his constituents in Wolverhampton South-West. His argument was not rooted in a racist idea of the inferiority of other cultures – Powell was sufficiently intelligent and experienced to know such thoughts were idiotic – but in an idea of the dangers of imposing upon some communities a culture unlike the one that had always prevailed there. It was a speech, as he clearly said, about the failure to achieve integration across the country. Unfortunately for him, that was a part of the speech to which few chose to listen. ✍️ Simon Heffer Article | spectator.com/article/its-ti…

The Unite the Kingdom rally on Saturday should be treated no differently to the pro-Palestinian march on the same day. The fact that two-tier justice is being applied against patriotic Brits is disgraceful. thetimes.com/uk/article/met…

@Sylus63 @dave43law @Nigel_Farage She wasn’t she repaid the £40,000 so she did evade it, they just accepted her explanation. Now what about the rest? There’s an international arrest warrant out for Siddiq.

After careful consideration I think Al Carns should be the next Prime Minister. I know next to nothing about him but it’s been a while since we had a leader who looks like he can knock fuck out of absolutely anyone. That will do for me 😀

EXCLUSIVE: Al Carns WILL join the race to become PM if there is a contest. A parliamentary source told @thetimes "Al Carns has said ‘he is getting on with doing his job, but if someone fires the starting gun, he isn’t afraid of gunfire’." They said the implication was Carns "would throw his hat in the ring should someone trigger a race"

@PaulKennard18 @JeremyJacobs @FennellJW Tbh to give Labour the best chance it really is that simple (alongside reasonable managerial decisions and no major cock ups eg re NHS), Paul is correct, now whether that woukd actually fix the country is another question altogether

@JeremyJacobs @FennellJW Or, simply, get over the ‘envy & spite’ ideological nonsense, and exist in the real world. Compare and contrast the results of socialist policies in Washington State, California and NYC with Texas, Florida and Tennessee. Demonise wealth, punish success, then watch capital flight.

Al Carns: How Labour can win again What is the point of Labour if it does not represent Sheffield, Stoke-on-Trent, Barnsley, Swansea and Aberdeen? What is the point of the Labour Party if it cannot replace despair and frustration with hope, stability and purpose? The party was founded to give ordinary working people security, dignity and bargaining power over their lives. That is exactly what I believe, and it must be our mission again. We do not need more slogans, strategies, press releases or commissions. We need action. People in this country do not expect perfection. But they do expect seriousness. They expect stability and fairness. And they expect a government that is on their side. That is what Labour must be again. It is how Labour defeats Nigel Farage. And it is how Britain recovers. @AlistairCarns newstatesman.com/politics/uk-po…

@DamienMorris 2/2 suggests there are instances randomly produced. On murderers deserve blame and punishment for their actions, it’s less ‘deserve’ as I don’t believe they were truly ‘responsible’ - able to act differently. But, the punishment is needed for society to reduce murders & suffering

Great stuff from @robkhenderson in @CityJournal: "As Dalyrimple... notes... perverse welfare-state incentives are not sufficient to explain the squalor of the underclass. To create these conditions, you also need the ideological or philosophical scaffolding peddled by intellectuals that undermines relationships and obligations.... intellectuals mocked the family, ridiculed self-restraint, and treated the police as an oppressive force.". "personal choice is denied, all misfortune is blamed on systemic forces, and judgment is equated with oppression."
