@JohnnyMcIvor @revenant_MMXX @DogmaticTower Curfew laws, most cities and states require young people to be home by like 10pm. Then you have anti-loitering ordinances and the like. Finally, economic factors, everything is more expensive and youth as a purchasing bloc have declined sharply in power.

@atreiyuh @KuroKamiii @Bronymon_ “Revere a cosmic process” That’s called religion sir, deities are conceptual personification of such processes. The question still remains of determining right and wrong. If death and rebirth is a divine process, what does that mean for morality?

@SylvanDiviner @KuroKamiii @Bronymon_ What would preclude a metaphysical world from existing as a part of its nature? Could you not revere a cosmic process as Divine? Im not saying im a Buddhist but you could be an Atheist an be one. It requires no more mental gymnastics than being a Unitarian tbh.

@philliplede Schmitt’s hatred for Spinoza is always interesting. He cites him favorably in the Weimar years. I wonder if it was merely the professional environment that restrained him or if his anti-Judaism was impacted (and heightened) by the atmosphere of the Nazi period.

@atreiyuh @KuroKamiii @Bronymon_ Moral nihilism though is the end destination, and the most logical end if you take the non-existence of deities seriously. Metaphysics isn’t sustainable without something Meta. If deities aren’t real, then why would divinity be?

@mage_rebirth @HMBohemond Can’t say I’ve encountered this perspective before, if you care to elaborate, what do you mean by “metaphysically idealist”?

@SylvanDiviner @HMBohemond Atheism rejects the existence of god or gods not divinity or non-physical entities entirely. There is no reason an atheist can't be metaphysically idealist for instance (which I actually lean towards!). I can be mistaken about zorastian but I thought it didn't involve god.

@mage_rebirth @HMBohemond Republic is really a mix of the argument for a particular conception of the good life, but it assumes that we are capable of reasoning about that correctly, which is not actually sustained and Book 10 is reasonably interpreted as an admission of this fault.

@mage_rebirth @HMBohemond Can’t comment on the stoics, been too long since I’ve read them. Republic has a fairly conflicted relationship with conventional morality, but even it still depends on the Gods guaranteeing the correctness of reason, same with Aristotle and his end of Eudaemonia.

@mage_rebirth @HMBohemond Atheism is the rejection of the existence of divinity. Agnosticism is what you are describing, Zoroastrians are monotheists, Taoism acknowledges the existence of spirits. All this does is muddle the subject of the discourse

@SylvanDiviner @HMBohemond Not to mention, an atheist in this consideration is someone who doesn't believe in a god, thats not necessarily mean materialism/physicalism. An atheist can be Taoist, believe in an orderly universe or karma or be nominally Zorastian etc. Or believe in the world of forms.

@mage_rebirth @HMBohemond They don’t need to be Christians, the meme is specifically about atheists. A Christian and a Pagan may differ over what is considered moral, but that disagreement is at its root theological, atheist morality has an issue with what is the basis of judgement.

@SylvanDiviner @HMBohemond Neither are they christians. I don't mind if you wanna argue paganism through them. I am also not dismissing late medieval theology. Because unlike twitter larpers they have better arguments than moral argument.

@mage_rebirth @HMBohemond Neither Plato or Aristotle are atheists though, and Late-Medieval theology and beyond take Greek philosophy fairly seriously.

@GregoriusLotor @IterIntellectus @DiscussingFilm A good actor knows what good dialogue is. It's quite common for them to propose script changes because when they start saying the lines, a good actor should sense what doesn't match the scene. Mark Hamil saw Lucas made Luke's lines way too complicated and proposed revisions

@IterIntellectus @DiscussingFilm He’s an actor. Why anybody would even ASK him about the dialogue is beyond me. He says “dad” instead of “father” because that’s what was in the script. THAT’S the entire reason.

Tom Holland explains why he says “Dad” instead of “Father” in ‘THE ODYSSEY’. “I wouldn't have said ‘Father’ back then anyway, it would've been in Greek.”

@shitterly @Portergauge WoD was when WoW jumped the shark to me. You are right it was pure nostalgia bait, and it signaled when the writers stopped carrying about the established lore in a substantive sense.

@Portergauge i still think the main story was a fundamental failure of storytelling. using time travel as a core plot device is ground for a convoluted and bad story

God I hope that they actually do WoD Classic. I’ll forever hold that WoD’s only real flaw is the things it *didn’t* have (which was a lot lmao) But what it *did* have? Absolutely phenomenal, peak Warcraft experience for both factions, and I’d love to play through it all again.

While Blizzard has remained tight-lipped about the future of Mists of Pandaria Classic, this Mount could give us a clue about where we're headed next. #WoWClassic #MOPClassic wowhead.com/mop-classic/ne…
