If you're interested in learning how to use and configure Emacs from the ground up, check out the Emacs From Scratch series I started about a month ago. We make new episodes live on YouTube every Friday! youtube.com/watch?v=74zOY-…

I used vanilla emacs when I started with it 15 years ago. Then I announced init.el bankruptcy and used Spacemacs for a long time. The time has come to go back to vanilla though! I am following awesome @SystemCrafters videos and I think I will make it through this time :D

To Emacs users who haven't become comfortable with Emacs Lisp yet: How much would your Emacs experience improve if you knew how to write Emacs Lisp code at an intermediate level? Do you have something specific in mind that you'd do with it? Feel free to reply via DM! #emacs

@dhh Clearly it should be Emacs on the right side.

Vscode is totally fine, but this is just a dumb misapplication of the bellcurve. At Rails World, Vscode had something 90% marketshare. It's the overwhelming default. And good on MS for capturing that! (But rate of vim usage amongst the best programmers I know is much higher).

@PabloBernardoTW If you are just starting out, might be worth trying Doom Emacs first to get a sense of what is possible with Emacs, them eventually make your own vanilla config once you know which packages or features you like

Today I finished the Emacs from Scratch series. Thanks @SystemCrafters for this whole series, without it my setup wouldn't be so good and I wouldn't have enough to understand and solve things.

As I mentioned on the stream yesterday, there is a growing Mastodon community for Emacs at the emacs.ch instance! If you're interested in trying out Mastodon as a Twitter alternative, you'll have a great time there.

If I were to give a talk about Emacs at NeovimConf, what do you think it should be about? Serious suggestions only, this is not a joke :) neovimconf.live

Got tired of writing queries for #emacs mu4e using strings. It's uncouth and un-lisp-like. Thus, mu4e-query, that lets you write queries using s-expressions: github.com/mickeynp/mu4e-… Keen on feedback.
