Is society a zero-sum game? @OBEhizele explores how this assumption shapes public life and how the Christian vision of divine abundance points to a richer moral imagination rooted in cooperation and the common good. Read his thoughts 👇 t4cg.substack.com/p/beyond-zero-…

For several years, Jenny Sinclair has been reading the signs of the times, exploring the relationship between churches and poorer communities and highlighting the need for change. “Whose Side is the Church On?” is a chapter she has written for a recently published in a book reflecting on the Faith in the City report. In it, Jenny asks what must shift if the Church’s response to poverty is to meet the challenges of a new era. She calls on the Church to go beyond service provision to fully recover its calling to stand in solidarity and seek justice with its neighbours, especially those on the margins. Migration sharpens the question of belonging. In Episode 57 of the Leaving Egypt Podcast, Harvey Kwiyani and Jide Ehizele reflect on how the migration of African Christians to the UK may be more than demographic change. It may be one of the Spirit’s means of renewal. Restoring a lived awareness of God’s presence in everyday life. They explore second-generation identity, mutual hospitality between guest and host, and how a Spirit-conscious, communitarian faith can help renew a thinning moral imagination. For those thinking about leadership, culture and the Common Good, this is a thoughtful and timely conversation. 🎧 The African Christian Experience 🔗 leavingegyptpodcast.substack.com/p/ep57-african…

Harvey Kwiyani and @OBEhizele join Leaving Egypt hosts Al Roxburgh and Jenny Sinclair for a fascinating conversation about identity, migration, and spirituality. They discuss how the migration of African Christians to the UK may be the Spirit’s way of catalysing a sacramental spirituality that British culture has lost. Examining how guest and host can practice hospitality to each other, they explore how cultural barriers can be bridged to foster both a sense of belonging and an openness to encounter the Spirit in everyday life. The Common Good Schools programme gives children and young people the chance to learn responsibility, strengthen local relationships, and truly understand the value of community. We’re currently working with four schools that are keen to take part — but a lack of funding is holding them back. Participation costs £500 for a secondary school in their first year, and £250 per year after that. We believe cost shouldn’t be a barrier to such a powerful learning experience. If you’re in a position to support us, your contribution could help bring this programme to more young people who would benefit from it. Could you help give local children the gift of the Common Good? Those who’ve followed us for a while will know that Common Good Schools is a unique programme that helps young people learn what it means to take responsibility, build strong local relationships, and value community. Right now, four schools are eager to join the programme but don’t have the funds to do so. We believe every school should be able to access the transformative benefits of the Common Good Schools programme. The cost for a secondary school to take part is £500 in their first year, and £250 per year thereafter. If you’re able to help, your support could make a real difference to young people. 👉 Find out more or donate here: stewardship.org.uk/pages/cgs_fund…

Jide Ehizele challenges the cultural pressure to "go viral" and argues for something deeper: faithfulness to place. @OBEhizele's calling is on the ground - in kids' ministry, theology workshops, community outreach. His relationships are built over coffee, shared meals, and unplanned chats after church. "The local church. The neighbourhood. The ordinary rhythms of life. These aren't beneath us. They're holy ground." Jesus spent most of His life in obscurity, investing in a few disciples. The early Church spread through households - meal by meal, life by life. Local doesn't mean small. What does radical commitment to place look like? @battlejohn has lived in west Leeds for forty years. After retiring from a long career in Parliament, he started a men’s walking group having discovered that his high-rise neighbourhood was facing the highest male suicide rate in the country. Fifteen years on, it still meets every Friday. Then, when the council closed their local swimming pool, he and his neighbours reclaimed it. Now it is employing 60 people. "The neighbourhood isn't just where I served. It's where I belong." This is faithfulness to place.
