The 'Super Sewer' works run through one of the most significant urban centres in Scotland, with the first major urban excavations of Perth High Street in the 1970s and proximity of Perth Waterworks, Tay Street, the early medieval harbour and Cromwell’s Citadel on the South Inch.

Suzanne Swan (AOC Archaeology) will be speaking at TAFAC’s conference on 1 Nov in Glenrothes. The ‘Super Sewer’, a major Scottish Water project in Perth, from Tay Street to Shore Road along the River Tay enabled investigation of the area’s archaeological record.

Colm (Rubicon Archaeology Ltd) will provide a general overview of the work, focussing on the results of two open area excavations which revealed Bronze Age settlements, and also on a series of non-invasive investigations along the route of Wade’s Military Road.

Advance archaeological works on behalf of Transport Scotland along an 8.2 km section of the A9 between Tay Crossing and Ballinluig were carried out by Rubicon Archaeology and involved landscape and building surveys, trial trenching and open area excavations.
