1/2 Last month, I came to Australia for a 5-week long research visit, knowing that one of my dearest friends has made this country her home. Australia being far from almost everywhere, we had not seen each other for 12 years.

@TAledavood Ah.....thanks for sharing the history of Eurovision 😅 Yeah, I was also surprised about the changes this year. Could definitely have been a big factor in the disagreement. I would love to write a paper about this, potentially building a model to predict next year's voting 😉

This weekend was Eurovision weekend! You know Eurovision, right? Its a music contest🎶 with more viewers than super bowl! Something strange happened this year🤔 During the event I noticed a large discrepancy between the jury and audience votes #Eurovision2023 #DataScience 1/

@vedransekara en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_at… e.g 1998-2000 they had no jury unless televoting wasn’t possible. I also wonder whether the fact that this year people from around the world could vote has also played into this disagreement (jury from certain countries only and voters from everywhere).

@vedransekara Thanks Vedran for this analysis! Each year, I also wonder about the voting system of Eurovision and what contributes toward how people/jury do the ranking, but I’ve never analyzed the data. I don’t know if you know this, but Eurovision has experimented with many voting systems:
