The point of that statement is not to compare the two instances, but to illustrate that a child will wear(and choose to wear) a style that the parents affirm and encourage. Like I said, you can manipulate a child into anything. There's an illusion of choice and no actual free choice.

Right, because boys wearing chokers, a shirt that says strong girls and long hair is entirely normal without adult influence right? Again you're missing the point. Kids DO NOT pick by themselves. Their behavior is INFLUENCED by their parents. Sure, having one child that absolutely want to weat that style could make sense. But 3? No. That's not their own choice, thats parental influence. There's probably an illusion of choice there, but kids can be manipulated into thinking whatever the parent wants them to.
