Crude Velocity wins impressively on debut at Santa Anita Park 🏇💨 A graduate of last year’s OBS June Sale, he posted a -3 TBX Graph Number, a very strong number that translated to the racetrack. No it’s a good question. :) Many choose to do only 1 furlong because it is less taxing on a young horse. But by doing 1 furlong we can gauge 1) natural speed 2) max stride angle (this cant be properly measured w/out the horse opening up) 3) stride length 4) stride mechanics 5) see how the horse mentally deals with pressure (arguably the biggest hurdle for racing) But the 1 & 2 furlong works aint where the money is at. The real money and magic is in the gallop outs, and to see those you need to drop a couple grand for an agent or sign up to @TBXapp to get access to the gallop out times. There will be a lot of horses that go 9.4 but simply can not naturally carry their speed and dont sell for a lot. Then there will be horses like Silent Tactic, who only did 10.1 but had beautiful mechanics, a big gallop out and sold for a lot. On the whole, the point of these sales is to showcase the horses natural talent the best we can, give the buyer as much information on them as possible, while also trying to be as SAFE and pro-horse as possible. If your horse breaks the world record then flunks its vet, all bets are off and it won’t sell. Keeping these horses sound and safe is the #1 priority here.
