You could ban smartphones for under 16s. It’s something I can’t help but feel we will look back on as ‘crazy we did this so late’.

@ianaddison This penalises poorer families. They can't afford to take their kids away in half term. They then end up breaking the law by taking them in school time or can't take them at all! It's so unfair.

The first job of any incoming head of department is to do...nothing. Take your time. Figure things out. Don't rock the boat until you've identified the thing that really needs changing. That applies to anything: booklets, T&L, starters, homework platform, admin...whatever.

Who knows what the children have seen on the news or heard at home this week, or over the coming weeks. When we get back to school we must show them the value of tolerance, inclusivity, empathy and respect. Right from day one, in every classroom. Show them what really matters.

@MathsImpact All the time. Modelling my thinking. Modelling getting it wrong and unpicking what mistakes I make are really valuable

Maths teachers: How often do you answer questions "blind" in front of a class without already knowing what the answer should be? Particularly tougher questions where you don't immediately know how to do them?

@missdcox My journey to work takes 15 minutes less on a Friday. I had on average 50% attendance today across my 4 classes taught 🙈

@SwailesRuth I recently found out that a lot of teachers ‘have a tree’. This is the tree before they get to work that, if they crashed into it ‘a little bit’ then they would be in hospital for a few days. They wouldn’t have to set work. They wouldn’t have to ring in.

Thinking about the next half term being nearly 8 weeks long, I may be inclined to ditch a week in the summer holiday to make it a two week half term.

@123FAdam @AhmedKhattabUK Absolutely agree that mini whiteboards in particular and cold calling help with formative assessment amongst a whole host of other strategies that I picked up on the EFA trial I was involved in, but it concerns me when the only written feedback a student receives is summative

@TCOLC_edchat @AhmedKhattabUK Responsive teaching and feedback from whiteboards and cold calling. There needs to be specific pieces that you mark in a year based on the concepts students need to understand from the way you sequenced your curriculum. Smarter not harder

STOP MARKING. 1. It doesn't impact 'learning' 2. Your teachers will love you for it.
