I think we all wanted Spain to win given how France had looked… However, not so sure after today. Spain looked unstoppable against the apparent “world’s best” But first. Argentina 🇦🇷. Our first World Cup final since 1966? We can dream! COME ON ENGLAND 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

@21luckyforsome So the school cares enough about your child stealing things he isn’t entitled to so that he learns that isn’t civilised behaviour - and they spend time teaching him there are consequences. Sounds like a decent school.

@jon_hutchinson_ This feels like the sort of thing Gove may have done and people would have shrugged and asked what took him so long.

@jon_hutchinson_ Oh you were explaining the objections - I just think the one on autonomy doesn’t really stand up. The one on standards doesn’t because you can still have a distinctive smart uniform.

I wouldn’t have chosen the specific rules on uniform that the SOS did (including free items is mad, for example), but I don’t understand the objections to making it affordable by limiting branded items.

Feels like ages since I’ve said something positive about this government.

There’s nothing that stops us having a similar uniform, it made us stop and think about which items we value and feel like our identity. Overall it’s just a sensible measure.

@adamboxer1 Have you noticed that when *anyone* says anything positive about Alpha on social media, you click on their profile and they work for Alpha. It's a billionaire buying an echo chamber. Or trying to.

@adamboxer1 But they really believe in the model and these people committed to research "don't GAF what others think".

"motivation is 90% of learning" "teaching a class of 30 is an impossible task" "traditional education is cooked" "learning is a sub-domain of engineering" "Great educational tools like this will change how our kids see the world. My bet is with a host of tools like this you could half the current educational systems protracted curriculum" "the answer is [for AI] to mimic what a really good teacher does: warm/strict supervision" This is the kind of stuff that AI and Alpha boosters are churning out. NONE OF IT holds up to scrutiny, and it genuinely blows my mind that people are taking it seriously.

I like a bit of political satire as much as the next man. And novelty candidates often bring some welcome light relief to our politics. But I firmly predict that the whole Binface thing will, for most people, have become incredibly tedious within a couple of weeks.

@PaulEmbery @lewis_goodall Most people see it as a stunt and are laughing about it - including most Reform supporters. Spiked/ RCP lot are earnest in trying to take offence. Which is making it funnier. Snowflakes.

I think @lewis_goodall is being disingenuous here. The *character* is very obviously not part of the establishment; it would be risible to claim otherwise. But the *person behind the character* - an Oxbridge graduate and BBC scriptwriter - certainly fits the bill for being part of the modern establishment. Does anyone seriously believe otherwise?
The News Agents@TheNewsAgents

"If you're explaining the bin is part of the establishment, you’re 𝘴𝘰 losing." "It's absurd, it's comical, it's ridiculous." @lewis_goodall questions how the online radical right can sit with a straight face and ask 'who funds binface?'"

@SoLInTheWild How much you want to learn something has little impact on whether you learn it. What matters is the cognitive work that you do...

People have this purist notion that kids should just be self-motivated to do well. For about 5% of them, that's true. But what about every other kid? Motivation is 90% of learning. Our guides figure out what motivates each kid and use it to get them to put in the work. Over time that builds a confidence anchor: the one win where a kid did something hard and hit their goal. Confidence in yourself might be the most valuable thing a kid can build. It changes your entire academic path. And yes, sometimes it starts with an Amazon cart.
