While most Canadians agree with his deportation order, some columnists and politicians argue that he should be forgiven and not be separated from his family. “You tell me which child of yours you want to give up, and I will be the keyboard warrior hoping for forgiveness. It’s not about vindication — it’s about what’s right and what’s wrong, and the future of our country,” says Joseph, arguing that giving Sidhu an exemption from the law would set the wrong precedent for other unqualified drivers and signal that Canadian lives do not matter. “Everybody has told him he should be deported — the judge, the CBSA, the Immigration and Refugee Board, the Federal Court of Appeal — and he still keeps trying, because he is looking out for himself and he really doesn’t care about anybody else,” says Joseph, urging politicians not to interfere with the judicial process and to allow him to be deported as he is supposed to be. Women and girls have the right to play competitive sports in a safe and fair environment against other biological females. This view is held by a vast majority of Albertans and Canadians. It is also common sense and common decency. Skate Canada‘s refusal to hold events in Alberta because we choose to protect women and girls in sport is disgraceful. We expect they will apologize and adjust their policies once they realize they are not only compromising the fairness and safety of their athletes, but are also offside with the international community, including the International Olympic Committee, which is moving in the same direction as Alberta.

Think of Alberta as the US before 1776: ruled by a distant power, taxed without real representation, and held back by someone who doesn't share our values. It's time for Alberta to declare its independence. In 2026, we get that opportunity.
