In my head, heavy metal begins with Black Sabbath s/t, and then metal begins with Kill 'em All. And the most important album in the middle is Sad Wings, but it gets no genre-izing.

@PopoffMartin Because you have to differentiate what is metal and what isn't. Certainly Deep Purple and Black Sabbath were not metal, metal pioneers and metal albums are 2 different things.
