We should release MUCH MORE data from the LEO database - which I was instrumental in creating when in govt. It has much more data on (for example) long term income outcomes than is currently released. So yes, release the data to all bona fide researchers to use as they wish.

Worth separating two things here. The screenshot is Graduate Outcomes (surveyed earnings 15 months after graduation), not the LEO measure. LEO on Discover Uni is a longer-term tax-record earnings view (3 and 5 years after), and what’s public is a disclosure-controlled, partial slice (excludes self-employment, is an average for subject area not course specific) I agree info alone won’t fix HE incentives, but the ‘release LEO’ argument is really about getting enough granularity to scrutinise outcomes properly, not pretending students currently have zero data.

Instead of having two interviewees saying the same thing compèred by a sympathetic interviewer, it would’ve been much better to have had an economics expert like Nick Barr or someone from @LE_Education, @TheIFS or @resfoundation to explain how loans really work and the trade offs
