Add batteries to your shopping list this week. A friendly reminder that #DaylightSavingTime starts this weekend. When you change your clocks, remember to also change the batteries in all the smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in your home. Smoke alarms save lives! #Toronto #safety

Daylight Saving Time begins this Sunday, March 8. ⏰ Remember to set your clocks forward one hour before going to bed on Saturday night. This is also a good time to: 👉 Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms 👉Replace alarm batteries if needed 👉 Review and refresh your household emergency kit If you’re changing batteries, remember: batteries must never go in the garbage or Blue Bin. They can spark fires in collection trucks and at waste facilities. Learn how to safely dispose of batteries and other household hazardous waste: toronto.ca/.../rec.../hou…

Using unapproved batteries and cords, overcharging devices and tampering with devices can cause devastating fires. Before using lithium-ion battery powered devices, always read and follow the safety instructions that come with the device. #Toronto #safety

Arsons and Shooting in Markham-Stouffville Within 24 Hours Could Be Linked To Extortion York police are investigating two arson attempts at separate businesses and a shooting at a home in the Markham-Stouffville area, all occurring within less than 24 hours. The incidents may be connected and possibly motivated by extortion. According to investigators, the first incident occurred around 2 am on February 11, when a white Audi SUV arrived at a plaza near Highway 7 East and Ninth Line in Markham. Two suspects were seen smashing the front door of a business and attempting to start a fire using an accelerant. About 90 minutes later, the same vehicle was reported at a plaza near Ringwood Drive and Main Street in Whitchurch-Stouffville. Again, two suspects were observed breaking into a business and attempting to ignite a fire. No injuries were reported in either incident, and both buildings were unoccupied at the time. Police are seeking at least three suspects, noting that the driver of the Audi was not seen leaving the vehicle during either attempt. Descriptions of two suspects have been released: -Suspect 1: Dark hooded sweatshirt, track pants, white shoes, grey gloves -Suspect 2: Blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black shoes, white gloves -No description is currently available for the third suspect. The following day, York Regional Police responded shortly after 9 pm to reports of gunfire on Harold Avenue near Ninth Line. Upon arrival, officers found a home that had sustained damage from multiple gunshots. No injuries were reported. Police say there is no information yet on a suspect or suspect vehicle. Investigators believe the house was deliberately targeted, but the occupants who recently moved in were not the intended targets.
