In Hunza, I heard the way that the direct danger from climate crisis is changing the vocabulary of communities.

Short term political fixes have long term consequences for landscapes and lives.

A place of beauty and danger. Our failure to slow vandalism of our climate is making more places uninhabitable.

The high mountains of Gilgit Baltistan: a place of beauty, and danger. Landscape unchanged for centuries. Until now. Thoughts on pilgrimage, politics of climate vandalism, and a perilous future.

Communities who have lived in Gilgit-Baltistan for centuries are having to move or adapt because of climate crises. They told me of their fears for future, and determination to survive. We are helping them build defences, install early warning systems, and train for the worst.

Arrived in Gilgit-Baltistan. Communities have lived here in the high places for millennia. But rising temperatures are causing flash floods, landslides and avalanches. A landscape and a way of life is threatened.

Excellent discussion in Islamabad with Prime Minister @CMShehbaz. We discussed intense diplomatic efforts on Middle East, humanitarian convoys across Pakistan/Afghanistan border, and partnership on global disaster preparedness.

The choice is clear: we can wait for disaster, or we can invest in resilience. El Niño is back. My statement:

So many people lost everything in the earthquakes in Venezuela. UN, NGO and local humanitarians have been there for them, and we will be there for them through the long work ahead.
