There's something to this. Somewhat relatedly, I've lived in NYC for over 13 years now, and the two main reasons I'm a Mets fan are that (1) I grew up watching mostly NL games (Pirates, Cubs on WGN) and (2) it was a condition of starting KYE w/ @SamAdlerBell

An underrated element in all of this is what I call “AL Central theory.” A lot of us moved here from the Midwest and rooted for teams that got spanked by the Yankees in the playoffs so much it affected our passion for baseball but it’s fun to go to games so go Mets.

Lombardi also: —Made sure his Black players were given time to go to Milwaukee where there were people who knew how to cut their hair. —Told anybody who would listen that homophobia had absolutely no place in any building he ran (his brother Harold was gay). —Hated all forms of prejudice because he had experienced so much of it himself. —Was a Kennedy Democrat who sloughed off Nixon’s potential interest in him as a running mate. Lombardi would have HATED Donald Trump.
