@THChrisB I lived near the border of Canada with -40 f winter days. Yes you still do this in the mornings at least. Turn off heat. Tiny crack in 2 windows for 5-10 minutes. Close windows. Wait 5-10 min for air to heat back up, then turn on the furnace again. You're not heating the outdoors

Mais il n’y a pas de déclin du français au Québec. Les catégories linguistiques de Statistique Canada sont très rigides et exposées à la fallacie de l’inférence écologique. On infère des comportements individuels à partir de catégories agrégées qui ne captent pas bien les usages réels.
C’est particulièrement visible en matière de mariage : les francophones épousent des non-francophones, mais continuent de travailler en français. De leur côté, les immigrants utilisent largement le français au travail, même si leur langue maternelle ou d’usage à la maison est différente (dans un mélange dans lequel se trouvent le français en compagnie d'autres langues).
Dès qu’on regarde l’usage « dominant » du français dans au moins une des deux sphères — travail ou maison — on observe que près de 90 % des individus utilisent le français de manière prédominante.
Avec Alex Arsenault Morin (Queen’s University), j’avais publié un article sur cette question en 2020 dans Journal of Multilingual and Multicultural Development. Je n’ai simplement jamais pris le temps de le mettre à jour avec les données du recensement de 2021. Je suis prêt à croire que ca a changé un peu depuis 2016, mais il faut arrêter de charrier avec une crise.

Ce n'est cependant pas aux élus de tenter d'établir une hiérarchie entre les divers facteurs qui influent sur la vitalité de notre culture et je ne vois pas sur quelle base QS veut établir un classement entre immigration massive et influence des GAFAM, nous devrions plutôt nous entendre pour agir sur tous les facteurs. On doit intervenir sur tous les fronts pour protéger notre culture : revenir à des seuils d'immigration conformes à la capacité d'accueil du Québec ET adopter des politiques publiques fortes pour la découvrabilité de la culture québécoise sur les plateformes numériques.
