On May 7, 1945, while beating back a Japanese counterattack the younger Fenton, 19, was killed. - When his father received the bitter news, he traveled to the site of his son’s death and knelt down to pray over the flag-draped body. - Upon arising, Colonel Fenton stared at the bodies of other Marine dead and said: ‘Those poor souls. They didn’t have their fathers here’ - If you’ll remember in the past, I posted a photo of Captain Ike Fenton of 1/5 in Korea, 1950. Ike Fenton was another son of Col Fenton. - This Memorial Day, and every day, remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice and spend the day how you feel best honors their memory.

Originally I wanted to move back to Colorado when I retired, but that place got ruined by the commies & their laws. I also don’t care if you smoke pot as an adult, but walking through a cloud of it is gross. Where I live is lower in elevation, but very similar to once you get up into the parks of the Rockies. If you want a place to ride a motorcycle this summer, or go camping, come play at the Red River Gorge, just don’t move here…we’re full up. One lane bridges and one & 1/2 lane wide roads are common here. Yes, that tree is an American Chestnut (not hybrid) & it actually produces! They once thrived in Appalachia, but were mostly wiped out in a blight 100 years ago. The entire mountain stops by in the fall & gathers chestnut seeds to roast. *video never translates the actual steepness of terrain.
