Me as a MG TL Afghanistan in 04. We’d carry belts like this, and in contact you break a link and attach it to the belt hanging from the gun. Then link it to the box. I also carried 12 mags on my chest, and an additional 9 mags on my thigh

The Spirit of Basilone - Our next and very long overdue recipient of the Spirit of Basilone Award, Sergeant Henry Bake also known as @opinionated_machine_gunner. - Sergeant Bake spent time in 3/7 CAAT and 2/5 CAAT before heading back to Twentynine Palms as an Exercise Controller (Coyote). He was also invited and served as a guest instructor with the Australian Defense Force’s Direct Fire Support Weapons Course cadre. - Sergeant Bake’s work both in and out of uniform through his Instagram page, @opinionated_machine_gunner, has impacted thousands of Machine Gunners across the Corps and across the globe. He has never sought personal recognition for his work, but it is deserved. He is a true professional of our craft and the community is better off because of him. Thank you for all that you have done to uphold the legacy of our forefathers and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for you, brother. As infantry recognition month comes to a close, we recognize the heavy hitters of the 03 world, heavy weapons. While March 31st marks the day of the Machine Gunner (0331), we extend that honor to the Marines who bring the thunder from above and the destruction from afar: the 0341 Mortarmen and the 0352 Antitank Missile Gunners. These three Military Occupational Specialties are the bedrock of infantry firepower.
