We are currently engaging with AEP learners at Dzaipi Secondary School. We had the opportunity to interact with members of the Youth Education Committee (YEC), who play a vital role in peer-to-peer mobilization, encouraging learners to return to school.

📍Parenting Discussion Highlights! Today’s conversation, hosted by the @HummingbirdUg , offered such heartfelt reflections on the realities of parenting. We are deeply grateful to @NaomiAyot and @JAtimango for leading us through an honest and inspiring discussion. Naomi set the tone by reminding us that quality time isn’t about having the best toys or the most resources, it’s about being emotionally present. From cooking together to helping with homework, she emphasized that intentional connection builds both confidence and life skills in our children. Both Naomi and Joyce spoke openly about balancing leadership roles with parenting responsibilities. They shared how teamwork, delegation, and leaning on community support make it possible to carry both worlds with grace. Their stories around routines, Naomi breastfeeding and singing to reconnect after work, Joyce’s morning and after-school check-ins, showed how small, consistent moments strengthen bonds. Parental guilt was another honest topic. Naomi shared how choosing work over her child once left her feeling conflicted, pushing her to realign her priorities. Joyce also reflected on communicating work demands to her children, helping them understand why certain days are harder than others. A powerful reminder came through clearly: children express their need for connection in many ways, sometimes through tears, sometimes through aggression, and sometimes simply through silence. Responding with patience, play, song, or shared chores helps them feel seen and heard. Both speakers encouraged planning ahead with children, communicating travel or busy schedules, and involving them in everyday household decisions. It helps them feel valued and teaches them about responsibility and life’s realities. The session ended with a strong affirmation of the African truth: it truly takes a village. Grandparents, godparents, siblings, friends, and supportive workplaces all play a vital role in raising confident, secure children. We appreciate @NaomiAyot , @JAtimango , and the @HummingbirdUg for creating a space that not only shared wisdom but reminded us that women can balance career and family and thrive. The conversation also reinforced our shared commitment to breaking stereotypes and raising awareness on early childhood development.

@HummingbirdUg In today’s fast-paced urban life, children still need what matters most, intentional connection. Even a few minutes of focused attention can strengthen emotional wellbeing.
