Our recent research in @PLOSBiology outlines BehaveAI, a framework that combines deep learning with motion awareness to track and classify behaviour. This enables efficient characterisation of complex behaviours via enhanced salience. doi.org/10.1371/journa…

Our recent publication quantifies the burden of Varroa treatment non-adherence on honey bee health at a national level. There is strong evidence that poor treatment adherence constitutes a major and underreported driver of large scale colony mortality. doi.org/10.1127/entomo…

Our recent research in @CommsBio outlines VespAI, an AI system that uses deep learning to detect Asian hornets. This aims to provide an automated monitoring capability to limit hornet incursions at the invasion front. nature.com/articles/s4200…

I enjoyed speaking about hornets at the bumble bee working group last week, hosted by the University of Oxford and @morethanadodo.

@SteveCJjones @UniofExeterESI @UniExeCornwall @SciReports @UniExeCEC @DaveHodgson00 @USDA @UofE_Research @CornwallSci @davvi36 @mcastledine96 @britishbee @SolitaryBeeWeek In the case of the US, all honey bees are non-native, as they are of European origin. These Varroa-resistant bees will likely have positive ecological impacts, as they limit the spread of Varroa (another non-native species), and reduce the need for chemical acaricide usage.

In collaboration with @FeraScience, I recently secured a BDI-funded project to investigate the role of Varroa treatment adherence in honey bee health. We aim to examine the interface between acaricide treatment compliance and colony epidemiological outcomes at a national scale.
