We want to sincerely thank our community partners and GTA policing partners who supported our officers in keeping everyone safe during yesterday’s Global Day of Action. Safely managing up to 350,000 demonstrators is a testament to careful planning, close coordination, effective multi‑agency collaboration, and policing excellence on a large scale.

A large rally and march is expected in North York tomorrow, with significant traffic impacts. Road restrictions begin as early as 8 a.m., with major closures between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. You’ll see a significant police presence to keep everyone safe and traffic moving. I want to thank the @TorontoPolice officers who were once again on the front line during yesterday’s demonstrations, often facing dangerous situations, including incidents in which officers were assaulted. This kind of violence against police officers, or anyone, is unacceptable — full stop. Our officers are there to keep people safe, and they deserve to do their jobs without being attacked. As we have said many times, when officers have lawful grounds to do so, arrests will be made and charges laid — anywhere in the city, whether involving protesters or counter-protesters. Everyone must respect the law.

The Neighbourhood Community Officer program is being expanded to include Toronto’s underground transit neighbourhood – the TTC subway. There will be four dedicated officers between Union and Wellesley stations – and another four officers between Bloor and Eglinton stations. This will allow us to have a seven-day-a-week, dedicated coverage on the Yonge Line, ensuring transit riders feel safe and secure on their commute.

We've stopped over 6,800 drivers during our Festive RIDE spot checks so far, charging 93 people and taking 20 drivers off the road for being above the .05 warn range. Our @TrafficServices & Divisional officers will continue to be conducting these spot checks through the holiday season across the city. Take a cab, ride-share or designate a driver.
