It's #WorldArabicLanguageDay! Here is one of our TDC Award Winners, HudHud by Maha Akl of Cairo. Her typeface received a 2020 certificate in Typeface Design. "Hudhud's concept is centred around mixing influences from the two constructions of the Arabic script: Solid and Fluid."

The 19th Morrocan calligrapher al-Qandusi is known for his extreme stylisation of the Maghribi style (left picture). But he took inspiration from medieval examples, such as this Qur'an bifolio (on the right) sold in auction in 2011 and dated from the 11th-13th by radiocarbon.
