@DarrinADurant The principal impact of One Nation’s rise is being felt among conservatives with a lesser impact on the ALP.

@TRAVLIC The SA Labor primary vote is ~ 39% (33+/47 seats, ~ 58% 2PP). Vs ON 22% (4 seats?), Libs 19% (6 seats?), IND (4 seats?). Yes Labor margins in safe seats fell & major party primary vote fell. Yet maybe we’re seeing the self-cannibalizing of a highly fragmented right wing?

Everyone needs to take a breath, park their usual prejudices, and fully understand what has happened in the Australian electorate. There are people doing it tough. They are dissatisfied with traditional parties of government. They are taking their most precious commodity - their vote - and giving it to somebody else. This is not a traditional protest vote at all time when traditional parties of government. This is a conscious effort on the part of people who have seen the teal movement create momentum to tell the coalition parties: do better or else. As for remarks about ‘relevance’ - remember this: just because you think somebody is irrelevant does not mean other people see them in a similar light. A mere protest party doesn’t get almost a quarter of the primary vote in this country across multiple polls.

I have just watched video of somebody having a crack a Senator because they didn't vote for a motion put by Ralph Babet on abortion. Motions are not law. They are of bugger all consequence, and somebody has just gone off their rocker at Senator Jane Hume. To blow a gasket over a Senate motion that means bugger all is quite something and also points to the fact there are people who don't understand what motions in the Senate that seek an opinion from the chamber are designed to achieve. Quite apart from the fact it is a ridiculous rant - that's about a minute or so of my life I won't be getting back. And we do need better civics education because some of the stuff I am seeing on social media is being posted by folks that are one brick short of a load.

Throw anything you suspect as being unreliable into an AI engine and ask for all claims, cherry picked figures and similar to get verified and see what happens. And ask it for a real source of claims because that should enable anybody that is half paying attention to also identify something is garbage IF further verification is required.

Labor has now improved its position to 37.5% of the primary vote and are looking a lot more likely in Mawson (while the Liberals have fallen to 14% in fourth place) Two-candidate-preferred result of 57-43 vs ONP (per ABC)

Ashton Hurn, Liberal leader concedes defeat in South Australia’s state election. Lib voters switched substantially to One Nation. Post mortem? Why preference ON? You concede your political ground to a populist rival complaining about the “status quo”. Major tactical error.
