What is divisive about Winston Churchill? Travesty.

80 years ago today, Sir Winston Churchill delivered one of the most consequential speeches of the 20th century, his “Sinews of Peace” address, better known as the “Iron Curtain” speech, right here in my district in Fulton, Missouri. What would the world look like today without Winston Churchill? He was one of the greatest statesmen of any generation and among the first to recognize the enduring importance of truth, morality, and justice. That’s why my bill, which passed the House this week, to designate the @ChurchillMuseum at Westminster College as a National Historic Landmark is so important. This designation will help ensure that future generations of students have the opportunity to read, learn, and reflect, not only on history itself, but on the powerful legacy of Winston Churchill.

This Thursday will mark 80 years since Churchill's #IronCurtain speech. As a member of the Honorary Committee for its commemorations at @ChurchillMuseum, and a Churchill fellow of @WestminsterMO, I'm sad not to be there this week, but wish my friends there a wonderful few days of enjoyable programs, inspiring exhibitions and rich discussions about the legacy of Churchill's prophetic speech for the world today.

“When American military men approach some serious situation they are wont to write at the head of their directive the words "Overall Strategic Concept." There is wisdom in this, as it leads to clarity of thought. What then is the overall strategic concept which we should inscribe today? It is nothing less than the safety and welfare, the freedom and progress, of all the homes and families of all the men and women in all the lands.” —Winston Churchill, “The Sinews of Peace” 5 March 1946

It is truly an honor to curate the new exhibition, “Creating The Sinews of Peace,” opening March 5 in conjunction with the 80th Anniversary Commemoration at @ChurchillMuseum on the campus of @WestminsterMO.

Eighty years later, Churchill’s words still matter. Join us March 5–7 as the nation gathers to mark the 80th Anniversary of The Sinews of Peace—where freedom was defined and history was shaped.

@katieculture @ChartwellNT Well done and so appropriate, Katherine. You splendidly represent Churchill in so many ways, including as a member of the Association of Churchill Fellows at America’s National Churchill Museum/Westminster College, where Churchill coined the term “special relationship.”

It was an honour to be a part of the US State visit at Chequers today; meeting President Trump and the Prime Minister, and showcasing some of the treasures at @ChartwellNT that illustrate Winston Churchill's deep and enduring connection to the United States. 🇬🇧✌️🇺🇸
