Venezuela wins the World Baseball Classic in a game that lived up to the tournament’s name. Superlative pitching, excellent defense, clutch swings -- the biggest of them Eugenio Suárez’s go-ahead double in the ninth inning. An incredible show.

The looming match of Team USA vs. Venezuela is odd.
USA has leaned into the military vibe (Skenes/Jax flying out the AF baseball team, Raleigh’s Front Toward Enemy Shirt, and Robert J O’Neill speaking to the team, eg) but you don’t hear the “Stick to Sports” crowd being vocal.

Let the teeth grinding by the self-appointed experts on bracketology and the bubble begin about Miami. They remain in the high 80s in bettor power ratings. I guess we will see if picking the best teams matters more than the record or metrics the committee and "experts" use.
