On April 16, 2026, Alejandro Jacomino Gonzalez , a CDL driver for a trucking company, picked up multiple vehicles from the Port of Brunswick, in Georgia, and headed South for Miami, Florida, the drop off location for the vehicles. Gonzalez arrived at a truck stop in Brevard County, Florida, where he rested for several hours. The GPS from the truck later indicated the truck drove South one exit and then turned North towards Jacksonville, Florida. Soon after, Gonzalez became unreachable and the truck was reported #missing. Today, on what would have been my mom's 99th birthday, I stand in awe of the divine orchestration of her life. God’s hand was not only guiding history through her. It was shaping a mother whose love, strength, and faith would form me. As I now lead the institution she birthed, The King Center, her “fifth child,” her example and depth of commitment have been my compass. Just as she shaped Daddy’s legacy into a global beacon of hope, justice, love, and peace, I am determined that the world knows she is the architect of the King Legacy. She preserved sacred history, safeguarded places and documents that tell our story, shaped humane policy, convened a coalition of conscience, and built an institution that remains the epicenter of Kingian Nonviolence. Through it all, she showed us how to lead with love, strategy, and discipline. Even in her absence, I feel her. In my convictions. In my courage. In my calling. She poured into me in ways that continue to reveal themselves with time, reminding me that a mother’s love never ceases. It evolves, it covers, it carries. I miss her deeply, but I thank God for her endlessly. Her life was not only historic. It is a personal example that guides me every step of the way. I am saddened to learn of the passing of Congressman David Scott. He served Georgia with dedication for decades and leaves a legacy of public service that touched communities across our state. Congressman Scott spoke about the impact my mother, Coretta Scott King, had on his life and leadership. He shared that she invited him to speak at Ebenezer as a young man entering public life, an encouragement he remembered as a defining moment. That kind of investment in others was one of my mother’s gifts, and Congressman Scott’s life is a testament to how far that encouragement can reach. My prayers are with his family, loved ones, colleagues, and all who mourn his passing.
