Commissioner Buckingham is encouraging all Texans to honor our fallen military heroes this Memorial Day at one of our Texas State Veterans Cemeteries. Our cemeteries in Killeen, Abilene, Mission, and Corpus Christi will be hosting special ceremonies to remember and honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom. Also, the headstones of servicemembers Killed or Missing in Action will be illuminated at all four cemeteries. The grounds will be open 24hrs a day for night viewing through Memorial Day. The GLO Oil Spill Prevention and Response team stands on call 24/7 to protect our Texas coastal waters. Our Oil Spill team is actively working with @USCG to remove a stranded shrimp boat that washed ashore Crystal Beach on the Bolivar Peninsula. You can rest assured that the GLO will do everything we can to help our federal, state, and local partners keep our waterways, beaches, and coastal habitats safe and clean!

Heading to the coast this Memorial Day weekend? Texas beaches just got a big splash of rain, and that means bacteria levels can rise as stormwater washes everything from the streets into our rivers, bays, and the Gulf. The TBW team is monitoring all weekend until bacteria levels return to normal. In honor of Memorial Day, Commissioner Buckingham announced that the headstones of servicemembers Killed or Missing in Action will be illuminated at the @TexasVLB's four Texas State Veterans Cemeteries. The GLO is excited to join local leaders next Friday for the grand opening of the Caldwell County Community and Evacuation Center! This new 45,000-square foot facility, largely funded with grants from the GLO, will now serve as an emergency evacuation shelter during disasters and as a large community center during blue skies.
