Sometimes it’s really hard to keep up. No electricity since 5 am. No heating. No real forecasts when it will come back. The situation with energy infrastructure is really bad now. And it’s exhausting - This constant uncertainty, this waiting. But hope is still here. And sometimes hope is the only thing we have left.

My aunt recently had electricity for only 50 minutes in an entire day. Her house is mostly cold, and outside there are unusually severe sub-zero temperatures for the south of Ukraine. They’re being saved by the kindness of the building’s owner, who turns on his generator and heats the place for at least 3–5 hours a day. Since she’s elderly and her husband is even older, almost all of their tiny pension payments go toward medicine. Of course, the average American, Brit, or EU citizen cannot truly understand what it means to survive on such meager amounts with almost no electricity, no real heat, in freezing weather — when at 70 years old she still has to walk on icy streets looking for doctors and pharmacies. We all try to help however we can. But I’m asking you to show some real respect for Ukrainians who are surviving on the very edge of their strength — and to stop repeating shallow propaganda about “resilience” and how "victorious" it is when we strike Russia. There is no victory in this suffering. There has to be a line somewhere — a point where human morality draws a boundary. Western values are supposed to be about people first. Yet in today’s descriptions of Ukraine, people somehow always end up playing the last and least important role.

🇺🇦 Ukrainian forces tried to score another “online victory” yesterday, posting photos of what they claimed was a U.S. Patriot air defense system, covered with dozens of markings supposedly representing intercepted Russian missiles. But the truth surfaced quickly — the pictures showed not a Patriot, but a Soviet-era S-125 “Neva” radar in its Polish SC modification, likely transferred from Poland’s old stockpiles. The stunt came right on cue. Ukrainian and Western outlets recently reported a sharp drop in Patriot effectiveness against Russian ballistic missiles — from 37% to just 6%. Clearly, Kiev needed an urgent PR distraction.

Trump claims that Putin would have taken all of Ukraine if Trump weren’t President. This is complete nonsense. Ukrainian warriors, not Trump, have stopped Putin from taking Ukraine. And by not supporting new military aid to Ukraine, Trump is helping Putin take more Ukrainian land

Ukraine agreed to an unconditional ceasefire. Ukraine signed the “mineral deal” that Trump insisted on. Both sides are not at fault for no progress in negotiations. One side is. One person is. Putin.

Mr. Vice President, Zelensky has been crystal clear that he is ready to sign the minerals deal. So enough with all wounded egos and need for apologies, and sign the damn deal. If it's a good deal for America, then its your job to get it done.
Antonello Guerrera@antoguerrera

Bad news for Starmer and Macron. Vance confirms the only US security guarantee in Ukraine will be the mineral deal. He also plays down British & French peacekeeping troops as “20k troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years”.

Trump, Vance & others either have forgotten or never knew that Zelensky signed a ceasefire agreement with Putin in 2019. Three years later, Putin launched his full-scale invasion. So, signing another ceasefire with no security guarantees feels like suicide for Ukrainians.

Even if you honestly think this, what U.S. national security objective is advanced by going on television and trashing Zelensky? I honestly don't get it, unless Trump was never interested in peace at all and will now use this debacle to walk away from mediation and just embrace Putin.
Saint Javelin@saintjavelin

Following public backlash against Trump after his meeting with Zelensky, a wave of U.S. officials - including the Secretary of State, National Security Advisor, and Speaker of the House - simultaneously questioned Zelensky’s leadership, Ukraine’s negotiation stance, and accused Kyiv of “derailing dialogue.” Russian propaganda quickly amplified these claims.

President Macron: "Russia is already aggressive towards the whole of Europe. It's started, it's intensified. It's putting North Korean soldiers on European soil. It's got a very strong army, it's attacking us on information, cyber, migration. And I can mention other things. It's destabilizing us, it's attacking our interests in Africa, it's provoking us, testing us at sea and in the air."

So far I have seen zero evidence that Putin is willing to give one inch in order to negotiate a peace deal. All I see instead are ideas floated by the US of concessions that Ukraine, NATO, and US are supposed to make. Have I missed something?

Ive heard similar reports about this 3-stage peace proposal from colleagues in Kyiv.
Jacqui Heinrich@JacquiHeinrich

🚨NEWS w/ @NanaSajaia - US/Russia 3 stage peace proposal would force new Ukraine elections: foreign diplomatic sources The US and Russia are proposing a three-stage peace plan, according to multiple foreign diplomatic sources close to the talks in Saudi Arabia. The plan includes a ceasefire, elections in Ukraine, then signing of a final agreement. Multiple foreign diplomatic sources tell FOX the US and Russia consider holding new elections in Ukraine to be a key condition for the success of the settlement process. This piece is certain to stir controversy, as Russia does not hold true elections and the Ukrainians balk at the prospect of installing a pro-Russia puppet president. 🚨 A US source familiar with the negotiations softens this claim – telling me people are “floating” the elections piece – and “it may be part of future talks, but not today.” 🚨 The White House has NOT YET COMMENTED - but is expected to soon. Ukraine also disputes the notion that Zelenskyy’s popularity is too low to win reelection, even without Russian interference, citing his refusal to sign anything in Munich. Multiple foreign diplomatic sources provided this readout from the Ukrainian side: “Putin assesses the probability of electing a puppet president as quite high and is also convinced that any candidate other than the current President of Ukraine will be more flexible and ready for negotiations and concessions. In turn, D. Trump is ready to accept any election result, including the possibility of election of a pro-Russian puppet. D. Trump and V. Putin consider the chances of the current President of Ukraine being re-elected as low.”

I don't remember Europeans getting a say in the signing of the Russia-North Korean security pact last year, which then led to 10,000 North Korean soldiers being deployed in a European war. So, Russia doesn't get a say in NATO's decisions about membership.
