Elon did it because the mission, getting the world off fossil fuels, mattered more than the competitive advantage. SPACEX SpaceX cut the cost of sending things to space by over 90%. Every rocket reuse makes space cheaper for every country, every scientist and every future generation. He is building the road to Mars. Not for himself. For all of us.
