TGS’s Director of Research Clare Wyllie joined the panel at today’s @pgreform Gambling Ads Summit: · Gambling can’t be regulated by those who benefit from it. · There is enough evidence, and the government has the power to make change. We hope that the new government will act.

1/3 Can gambling harm be addressed by a piecemeal approach which tackles advertising and marketing first? While this is certainly a key piece of the puzzle, the overall strategic environment in which advertising and marketing sits is pretty abbot more important to fix first.

@MartinJ25530514 You're absolutely correct, Martin. In our White Paper response, we flagged two major missed opportunities: 1. Statutory Duty of Care 2. The failure to formally change how the government views gambling as a normal commercial good and a contributor to economic growth.

@GambleAware “Most messages still place slightly more responsibility on individuals than gambling companies, so further research could explore other messages that ensure an exact balance.” What is the "balance" between blaming individuals and allowing industry to market harmful products?

@GambleAware's recent findings claim that “safer gambling messaging” on ads isn’t effective. But this truth has echoed for years, voiced by those harmed by gambling. With a levy on the way, and as the government revamps these messages, GA seeks a role in shaping the new ones.

Where's the rationale behind a £5 stake limit for adults over 25, @DCMS? No evidence supports this move, contradicting government aims. It's a profit-first approach, and the consultation appears geared towards this outcome from the get-go. 1/2
