Yes Nikki please tell us about the discussions of slavery for you. I can definitely tell you about the discussions of slavery and Jim Crow for me. Learning about the meaning of the song strange fruit… seeing the chains and shackles in museums… having the image of Emmett Till emblazoned into my mind. As a Black Person in SC you can’t escape slavery, Jim Crow and their legacy… for Black folks it impacts every thing and almost every waking moment. From the statues like that of pitchfork Ben Tillman to the schools created to oppose desegregation to imbalances in wealth, education, etc. You can’t escape it, even when you want to. So no you don’t get a pass… spin all you want but we all know your answer was rooted in political appeasement and not grounded in moral truth & clarity!
