Hey everyone, we know we've been a little quiet out here - but, as we get closer to the mid-Season 2 update, we wanted to take a chance to get the ball rolling again. Later this week we'll be sharing a blog covering some of the mid-Season 2 updates, including balance changes, details on Vault Breaker, a few much-needed weapon adjustments, and details on a buff to Cradle progression. (This blog is just a preview, and we'll have the full list of patch notes the morning of July 21st.) But, in the meantime, our ear is to the ground. We want to know what you're feeling. The ESRB in 2013 wasn’t operating under the same rulebook we have now. When Black Flag first launched, an M rating covered A LOT without the stricter sub‑descriptors or modern content flags. Stuff like suggestive figureheads, heavier innuendo, and looser violence standards slid through without issue. Resynced is dealing with a very different ESRB. The guidelines around sexual content, nudity, violence framing, and substance use are much stricter, and the board is quicker to slap on extra descriptors that publishers don’t want. That’s why certain things got toned down or outright removed, including the ship’s bust. What passed in 2013 would trigger harsher labels today, and Ubisoft clearly didn’t want to deal with that. Same M rating, completely different rules. The game didn’t suddenly become “too much.” The ESRB just moved the goalposts.

@Garbear0II9 Because the games bones are good and it deserves a chance to rebound. But the hate campaign and CONSTANT posting by "journalists" about the steam numbers is causing it to downward spiral. Mid season should bring people back though.

@calmasacow @betty_egg absolutely not. UE is unoptimized garbage. The tiger engine is optimized as fuck. (GPU wise. maybe not so much CPU wise)

The problem Marathon has is kind of of their own making if they had moved to unreal the way Halo development has. They would be able to hire any unreal dev off the street and they would be able to totally come in an get right to work. Not to mention the better performance. their engine is wheat holds them back. they have to train someone for a while to get used to it and accustomed to the tooling.

I'm kind overcooked with Paul Tassi, because although he's just the messenger (don't kill the messenger) - he obviously doesn't actually care about the game. He's obviously not sinking hundreds of hours into it, and that's fine we need the numbers guys to bring us all the bad news - the problem is, I have 'bad Marathon news' fatigue. We know the game is struggling. We get it. How do we fix it? Paul Tassi has never shared any ideas on how to fix it - he's all doom and gloom, and before Marathon recovers I think people are going to have to learn to tune people like him out of the conversation. Because essentially what we have right now, is this positive feedback loop of bad news making EVERYONE want to play it LESS. Frankly, I'm probably going to be skipping season 3 because I have to play games that are consistently popular while streaming. I'm gonna have to play GTA5 (when I really don't want to)... which is precisely WHY I want Marathon to succeed! Paul Tassi clearly doesn't actually care. He's not playing it. He's not into it. I've never seen him hype about anything pertaining to Marathon - other than the trailer - but if he was on OUR side, he'd be like, "Why is Cryo only open on the weekends? Cryo is so cool! Open up Cryo!" Maybe he HAS shared ideas like that, but I haven't heard them. If he cared, he would have ideas that made sense to the people sinking hundreds of hours into the game. Games like Warframe and Siege had much bigger comebacks, and I doubt the trajectory they were on would have improved had people been constantly DOOMING about the game. You have to take the good with the bad - Paul Tassi is always in a bad mood about this game. He's obviously not playing. He doesn't get it, and he's slowly documenting its demise.... but how is this helping people like you or I, who actually really enjoy the game? It doesn't make sense everyone hates Marathon and plays games like Siege and COD and Arc Raiders - people would play Marathon if they can get it together and zone out all the negativity. His tone is so dire. We KNOW Marathon is struggling. We get it. The streamer in this video (I actually really enjoy GlorpinityTV and you should check his channel if you haven't) - he likes the game. He has ideas on how to improve the game, because he plays it and he wants it to succeed. He's in this foxhole with us. Paul Tassi is the doctor who wants to remind you you're gonna have herpes for the rest of your life, and there's nothing you can do about it... it's like, how is this helping me enjoy my life or encouraging people to hang out with me and give me a chance as a friend? Because that's where we're at with Marathon.... (I don't have herpes, but for the sake of analogy).... The answer is it isn't helping at all. @Tahnit @PaulTassi By playing it every day and blogging about my matches..? I'm not killing the game. I've given it WILD praise. I've been down in the trenches. That's not true. I enjoy Tassi, but there's no point in listening to someone slowly document the death of a game I'm trying to enjoy.
